Your Mother-In-Law is insane. Nothing is more gender neutral than white! Rock the Dumbo theme, girl!

I’m team green, but I’m convinced it’s a boy… We are getting white furniture and doing a “woodland” theme. We just have a tiny room and I love white furniture to help open up the space.

It’s never occurred to me – or anyone I know! – to treat white as anything but gender neutral. So your Mother-In-Law is the ridiculous one here. The great thing about white furniture is that it gives you so many options so far as decoration is concerned. Everything goes with white.

Google “Baby boy nursery” and look at the images.  There are tons of cute nursery’s for boys that incorporate white cribs.  I would show them all to your Mother-In-Law.

Here’s a pic of my son’s white crib. We have gray walls and everything is very gender neutral. Rest assured he is still a boy.

While I didn’t get white, I would never look at someone’s white nursery furnture and automatically think it must be a girl. I think it’s totally fine to have white nursery furniture for a boy.

Check out the blog Young House Love… they have a white crib for their little boy and it looks sooo cute and “boyish” the way they’ve decorated.

Yeah, don’t worry, she’s nuts, not you.  White is neutral.  We’ll be using white, gray, and bright accent colors for our nursery whether it’s a boy or a girl – if you care about “gendered design” you just change the accent colors, but really, your baby won’t care.  I think nurseries should be cute anyways, not overly masculine (it’s a baby, not a 30-year-old bachelor).

This.  Your Mother-In-Law is being a little crazy, I think…

I tend not to prefer white for boys, but I certainly don’t think it’s feminine for a baby!  It’s just my preference.  The only thing I’d think about is if you are planning on getting a convertible crib, would you still want white as a bed for him down the road.
