weatherbug:  agree! Mine is ivory but looks white.

ask to see a white and Ivory dress next to each other, you’ll see what they mean by white looking too stark 🙂

Mine is gold, so that’s no help to you, but the ivory vs. white decision really varies from brand to brand. Some brand’s ivories are quite dark, while others are so light that you can only tell it from white when they’re right beside each other. Same goes for whites. For some brands ‘white’ is almost flourescent or verges on blue while with others it is softer. You’ll have to try some on and check swatches before deciding.

If you are pale, domt go with white. It washes you out. I heard ivory makes your yellow skin tone more obvious if you have one. Not sure how true that is. Im Asian and my skintone is as yellow as it can get. I honestly cant tell any difference.

Here is me in ivory

Here is me in white

Mine is technically ivory but the consultants at the shop called it “diamond white,” which means it’s just barely not pure white. It has just enough of a hint of color to give the fabric a luxe, rich look.

Mine was ivory because that’s what it came in.  I don’t care for white on myself anyway.  the only problem I ran into was getting shoes to match that I liked, since I am not the normal gal who loves every shoe to cross her path.  My shoes wound up being white and since my dress was as my knees, I rightly assumed no one would ever notice.  Can’t even tell in pictures.

tessadub:  Mine is ivory as I find bright white a bit stark on my skin. I’m Asian, and a bit tan 🙂

That said – you should go with whatever works best with your skin tone. If you’re trying dresses on be sure to get a glimpse of yourself in daylight as well versus the harsh lighting they usually have in salons.

Mines Ivory. It’s colour 69 on this picture. I chose it instead of white as I’m quite fair and thought Ivory would be nicer on me. I think it’ll look pretty white though when it’s not next to other shades

I purchased an ivory dress, but tried on samples in white, champagne, and blush as well. I’m light/medium olive and thought that pure white made me look really jaundiced. Ivory definitely still looks white, but looked better on my skin tone. I loved the champagne and blush on me, but the dress I chose only came in white and ivory.

tessadub:  I went with white; my skin has a deep olive tone to it so it looked nice than the ivory dresses I tried on. There were some ivory dresses i loved though!

I got an ivory dress because that’s what my mother and the lady at the dress shop thought would look best. I’m one of those “white is white” people so it wouldn’t have made a difference either way to me.

Hi. I’m a pale skinned blonde and I chose white. Very unusual and unpopular where I live (England). The popular opinion is that pale girls can’t wear white wedding dresses.

I’ve never liked ivory much. It often looks dirty to me and I’d worry I’d look frumpy and it would bring out yellowy tones in my hair.

I like crisp white underwear on me and never buy cream as it just looks grubby on me. I used my clothing preferences outside bridal clothing as my best guide. I wear white dresses and tops in the summer so I can’t see why I can’t wear a white wedding dress.

I think it does depend on the tone of ivory but generally it’s not for me personally. I do love champagne, coffee and peach tones on me.

If I’d gone for satin I wouldn’t have chosen white though, I’d have gone with a peachy colour or light champagne. White satin is too dazzling.

Forget the rules. Hold the dresses up to your face and instantly you will know!

I chose Ivory because the dress I selected didn’t come in white. I feel like they are so similar anyway and both have a romantic look!
