There are so many shades of white when it comes to wedding dresses. Honestly, I can’t tell the difference between a lot of them. My dress was ivory and light champagne, and my whole bridal party said it looked white. So, I say get the ivory and no one will even notice! Especially if it’s a light ivory.

Agree with PP’s that light ivory today looks pretty much indistinguishable from white, and 90% of wedding dresses are this colour. Mine was called light ivory, and it looked white. Very few wedding dresses are stark white nowadays, it is less flattering on many skin tones. Neither you or your mother will be able to tell that light ivory isn’t pure white!
My light ivory dress for reference:

I’m wearing an ivory dress for my wedding. I’m very fair and my mom and woman an the bridal salon both recommended ivory for my my skin tone to prevent me from looking washed out. I only tried one out of 12 dresses on in white and was less flattering.

I had the same issue with my mother who voiced her objections to ivory. She felt white would look “fresher”. When she saw my ivory dress she loved it. It was light ivory which most people can’t really distinguish from white. I think ivory suits a wider range of skin tones. It certainly photographs better

Silk will never be white.
Go with the lightest ivory they have and your mom will never know.

My dress was pure white. My mom insisted on it & since she was paying for the dress that’s what we went with. I had tanned for the wedding & I think the white looked great. However, ivory is very similar to white & my mom couldn’t even tell the difference.

I got white! Specifically “the whitest white they have available,” because the sales woman kept trying to get me to buy blush or ivory.
I only did this because FH is wearing a white shirt with a light gold vest and a light pink tie. I didn’t want my dress to look darker or even “dirty” next to his shirt, and I didn’t want to change his shirt color because I was afraid it wouldn’t offset the gold enough. Plus, my whole life I’ve wanted a white dress and I know I wouldn’t have been completely satisfied if I didn’t get that.

I’m pale with pink undertones, I went ivory because white completely washed me out. As far as it looking cream, it doesn’t. Not on me anyway. totally thought the colors I was trying on were all white and they were all ivory!

Mine was ivory too (and not even that light of an ivory) yet it certainly seemed pretty darn white! I think ivory is more flattering on most people. I did go with an ivory shirt for my husband, though, just so it would coordinate. White shirt might have been fine but I just wasn’t sure so erred on the side of caution.
