This is my first post, but I’m obsessed with this site and search daily! There is soooo much information on here and the excitement that everyone shows makes me even more excited! Ahhhhhhh
FH and I both work with our hands (and I’m clumsy) so durability and price are the two biggest factors when choosing rings.. and we definitely wanted to make our purchases from small businesses.
Now, we’re a bit on the nerdy side, FH a smidge more so than I. We did find his ring a few days ago and it’s been purchased. He went with a moondust and tungsten ring that actually has shavings of a moon meteorite and glows in the dark, so super cool!
I on the other hand, want a more classic ring, yet unique with a vintage touch. So, after weeks of reading and searching, researching and reading, and searching some more, I’ve finally found my ring! Omg I have found my ring!!!! A 2 carat center oval Forever One moissanite with scalloped band and matching wedding band. I kept going back and forth between a 1.2 carat and 2 carat equivalent center stone, but after reading many other posts on here, I’ve decided that the 2 carat would look best on my 8.25 finger.
But, now I can’t decide if I want white or yellow gold??? They both look stunning! I have jewelry in both colors and wear both depending on the outfit I’m wearing, so I don’t favor one over the other. I included photos of his ring because I want both of ours to look good together. The yellow gold matches the light brown shavings in his and offers contrast, but the white gold matches the polished tungsten.
What are your thoughts? And if you have any photos of something similar, I would love to see photos! I appreciate any and all feedback!!

I like both and usually it depends on your undertones. With this particular ring, I prefer white gold, probably because the band is quite wide. You can’t go wrong with either option.

I vote yellow gold because both are equally beautiful but I think the yellow gold is a little more unusual – also it will be more durable – speaking as someone who does a manual job and has a white gold e-ring and a yellow gold wedding ring! Also, you mentioned it going well with your OHs ring and I think the yellow gold works best for that because it picks out both the gold and silver tones in that ring instead of just the silver.

@decisions1decisions: are you sure that’s yellow gold? It looks like rose gold to me (which is what I have because it’s freaking amazing lol). Anyway, I love the look of rose or yellow gold for the wedding ring set because I love the contrast of the diamonds with the colored metal. However, imho, moissanite can almost look kind of…gray in colored metal, so I’d probably then choose white gold (unless you’re getting the super white colorless moissanites).

@greeneyedbee: This was my thought as well – looks like rose gold, but that may be the reddish reflections. I like it, it’s more eye-catching than the white gold.

I personally love white gold with diamonds – but I find that I have to get my white gold rings rhodium dipped about once a year to keep them bright and shiny white. Not everyone dips their white gold rings, and not everyone needs to, but it is a ‘higher maintenance’ metal [IMO] compared to yellow gold. My rings have a warranty, so it’s not an extra cost, but just something to keep in mind when choosing your metal!

I like the yellow gold better in that ring! The diamonds get lost with the white gold.

Here is another photo of the yellow gold. I agree, I think it’s the reflection of the background making it look more like rose gold
Rose gold is super pretty too!

@MrsGarcia2014:
I never did think about the maintenance aspect. Yellow gold might be the way to go for me. Thank you so much!

Yellow gold for sure. The stone blends in too much with the white gold.

@decisions1decisions: Better photo! Yellow gold for the win. Half the time I wish I’d done my recent solitaire in gold rather than platinum.

I have an 18 palladium white gold set that doesn’t require rhodium replating, so there are options to avoid that maintenance of white gold is what you’re after. Or there’s platinum, which doesn’t require plating either.
I can’t even believe I’m saying this, but I actually prefer the yellow gold version because it makes the stones pop. I almost never like yellow gold, but this is a rare exception.
But you should get what you love most and what looks best on your skintone! Either way, gorgeous choice.

Would you consider a two tone design since choosing one over the other is so challenging?
