Ok…so I have pretty much made up my mind about getting an asha stone for my e-ring, but when I told my mom in all of my excitement, she asked me to look into white sapphires just in case. She is absolutely on board about me trying to find something I want/like that wouldn’t break the bank, but something about CZ REALLY bothers her….even though it is coated. LOL. I respect her opinion, and she knows I will take care of ANYTHING I get, but because she hasn’t been wrong about ANYTHING thus far, I have to see some white sapphires!!!….and ask some questions 😉
How long have you had your white sapphire? Is it durable? Does it have that “cloudy” look I’ve heard about? Why did you choose white sapphire? Was it cost effective?….sorry if that one is rude, but sometimes you spend so much time trying to find a deal, you end up spending the same amount you didn’t want to spend! LOL. So feel free not to answer that question if you don’t want to. Is there anything I should look for when choosing a white sapphire? Should I go to a private jeweler or a major chain?
Lastly…..post some pics!!! I wanna see all of your pretty white sapphire rings! Thank you 🙂

@stillwaiting88: oh that photo isn’t MY ring, it’s one I keep looking at on Etsy. I love the natural reference in the “twig” band and I also love emerald cuts.

I had a white sapphire before the prong snapped off (my fault, nothing to do with the white sapphire LOL). I think they are really lovely, I had a princess cut and it was so clear and beautiful, it looked like a step cut. Mine was lab created, so it was flawless AND durable. Very cost effective. They can be extremely pricey if you are looking for an earth mined white sapphire that hasn’t been heat treated, etc etc, but even Natural Sapphire Co has decent prices on natural white sapphires. Worth looking in to, IMO.

I meant to add that mine was only cloudy when dirty, so I gave it a quick clean every day. But I do that to my diamond too.

@FauxPas2012: That is absolutely gorgeous!! I’m starting to fall in love with emerald cut even though my first love was princess cut. LOL
@morganjenkstamwood: thank you for sharing. I think I will look into both lab created and natural. I’m all for flawless AND cost effective. i just don’t want anything that looks like costume jewelry. So far, I am liking what I see, but I will continue to look and price. How long did you have your white sapphire?

I think a couple of bees have white sapphire rings from helzbergs. I got a pink asha that just came in today! I haven’t seen it yet so I’m DYING for 5pm…Have you thought about Moissanite? I know the only available is forever brilliant. It’s all personal preference really. Asha’s are beautiful in person. I think once your mom sees the sparkle of asha, she might change her mind.

One thing to keep in mind about white sapphire is that it won’t throw off the rainbow flashes like a diamond/moissy/asha would. Here’s a video

I have one unset… they are pretty, but not diamond like. They do throw some white flashes, and if cut well, can be quite lively, but they look very different from a diamond. I would probably prefer it to CZ though, coated or not, because I like my stones to last forever, and CZ will not. A sapphire may. I would look at moissanite as another alternative.

@Missus_LLC: Let me start by saying that is a GORGEOUS piece of jewelry you have on your hand!!! Absolutely beautiful. Now that I am done being COMPLETELY fascinated (lol), I will definitely take a look at the link. I just need to see some other reviews. I am just a LIIIITLE hesitant because I haven’t seen any reviews from anyone who has had an asha for “years”.
@plpinkinsa2001: It’s 5:44 pm here on the West Coast…have you received your beauty yet? LOL. I think she WOULD be convinced once she sees it, but the whole CZ thing really threw her off. I was sold on moissanite before, the only thing is that they dont have princess cut, from what I understand. That is EXACTLY what I want….the Asha is meant to be temporary if it doesn’t last. From what I understand, there will be more moissys coming out in a few years. Maybe they will have a princess cut. 😉 In the meantime, Asha has stolen my heart! And if it stands the test of time, I might just go ahead and stick with it.
@MissNoodles: Thank you for the video. I will be taking a look soon. I appreciate it
@jcent: Thank you for your reply. I’m not necessarily looking for a center stone that looks like a “diamond”, but I have yet to find a colored stone that I think would look nice as an engagement ring, and I dont want to buy anything that looks TOO much like costume jewelry. Up until recently, I always heard white sapphire looks like costume jewelry that got cloudy, but from what I can see on the bee, it’s gorgeous!! Do you have any pics of your beauty?
