When we went to Men’s Wearhouse to look at tuxes, we were told the same thing. I then asked to look at their ivory shirt. It is a terrible shade!!! It is so yellow. I would not recommend it to anyone. I would definitely go with white.

Luckily, we shopped around for tuxes and found a store that had much better customer service and a much better selection of ivory shirts 🙂

I think it really depends on how far off white your ivory dress is. They told my Future Sister-In-Law the same thing for her wedding, so the men wore ivory shirts with black tuxes and silver vests. I just looked back at the pictures and it doesn’t really show because they are all a bit over-exposed (it was a sunny day), but IRL I thought they looked terrible, especially against the silver.

Her dress was barely ivory, so white would have been a better choice for the men- as @redhead_bride82413  said, their shade of ivory is very yellowish. If your dress is a subtle shade of ivory, then go with the white. I guarantee no one will notice.
