Same happened to me – ivory looked gorgeous, the diamond white? Not so much.

I think ivory flatters fair complexions and diamond white moreso rosey or olive/darker skin tones… but all in all, go with what you love & feel pretty in. 🙂

Someone at my work made a similar comment about a co-workers baby’s christening gown. The mother chose a beautiful vintage-looking ivory silk gown & the our co-worker was appalled saying that it should only be pure white on an infant in church. To each their own! The child was absolutely stunning in her ivory gown (seed-pearl detailing! just gorgeous!) and you will be too.

Not every girl can pull a Diamond White or Pure White Dress! Sometimes it washes us out! I got IVORY!

Ivory flatters most whereas white, IMO, sometimes looks too harsh and washes out anyone whose skin tone is this side of dark. Olive complected brides look great in white but the rest of us should just stick to ivory! I’d rather look my best on my wedding day than satisfy my MIL’s antiquated sense of propriety! Tell her, nicely, it’s your dress and she can shove it.

As far as I know pure white dresses don’t even exist anymore cause no one wears them.

IMO your Mother-In-Law wont even know the difference. I would show her a pic so she realizes it’s basically the same thing.

Then if she brings it up again just say “I just think ivory is much more elegant, pure white is so old fashioned and outdated”.

Your Future Mother-In-Law is being completely ridiculous.  If you hadn’t told her, she probably wouldn’t have even known the difference.  Ivory IS a shade of white.  She’s from another era. If you were feeling mischievous, you could tell her you didn’t feel right wearing pure white since you’re not a virgin anymore. 😛

But then, my gown is going to be ivory with BLUE piping, so I would probably give her a heart attack.

If it’s any comfort, she is probably the only person you will encounter during the wedding process would would think something like that.

if you hadn’t told it’s ivory, she never would have known the difference. bridal ivory is basically white, just more flattering!

@gemini22: it’s your dress, not hers. Of course you get something you like and sth that looks good on you but not for her
