Don’t forget… you can always look in department stores, boutiques, vintage shops, etc to find the item of your dreams. Yes, the wedding industry is mostly white, but don’t let that stop you from thinking outside of the box in terms of where you shop too! Instead of a bridal salon, why not design your own dress and hire a seamstress? Or find a funky feathered fascinator at your local consignment shop?

@Calybug:  Me me me!!! I knew I wanted a nude wedding dress. I thought that it wouldn’t be so hard to find after the Vera Wang show… I was wrong. Blush dresses seem to be getting more popular, but for some reason nude dresses are slow in taking off.

I have been second guessing my dress a million times because I bought it quickly when it was the ONLY formal nude gown I could find! Like, seriously? Stars are ALL OVER the red carpet in nude gowns. Why aren’t they available to the general public??? I definitely wasn’t going to find my “perfect” dress when I could only find ONE style in the color I wanted!

I look through wedding magazines adn I feel totally bored and blinded by all the white.

I think the industry needs more color too. 🙂 For the meantime, though, maybe just look for non-wedding dresses or items. For some reason when it’s labeled “wedding” the price quadruples and it all becomes white! Some of my favorite dresses have been prom dresses and formal dresses.

@Tangled:  As for a nude dress… I wore a nude Calvin Klein dress to a Gala a few years back and just bought it at Nordstrom! As I said above, don’t feel confined to ONLY look in bridal salons for your perfect dress, or accessories… think outside the bridal salon!!

Have you tried looking on Etsy for your hair comb? Same for the boleros (sp?) that you want? I’ve found so many “outside the box” on Etsy for my wedding and often at great prices! I’ve worked with multiple sellers on custom items too and was thrilled with the results.

@Calybug:  What exactly are you looking for that you cannot find?? I may be able to help or give inspiration if you paint the picture for me!

@thenextmrsi:  I searched and searched EVERYWHERE. And my dress is absolutely not a “wedding” dress. I didn’t find it on a bridal website. I found it at a local shop that sells prom dresses and pageant gowns!
