Sorry if the title is a little offensive, I didn’t know how else to direct it towards this particular group, there isn’t a subforum for y’all. I’m Mexican and have only been to Hispanic weddings, whereas Fiance is white and hasn’t been to any weddings with a dance. He’s nervous about his family being lost with Tejano or other Spanish music. I’ve told him we’ll incorporate other genres, but the music he likes isn’t danceable and he can’t think of what music they’d want to dance to. At all the events I’ve been to, the DJs have a mix of about 50% Spanish music, 30% Country, and 20% general “party” music (line dances, pop/funk, etc). Anyways, I know it’s all subjective, but what will y’all be playing?
If it helps, our guestlist is about 50% my family, 40% friends, and 10% his family. My family and a fair portion of our friends love/like to dance. His family is generally very go with the flow and I can see them dancing or, at least, being willing to be out of the floor, but he’s right in saying they aren’t big enough dancers to know what to do for anything other than “Play that Funky Music.”

we had country and 90’s 2000 pop– for some reason the only song i remember playing that was not a special song was the thong song— i thought it was on the do not play list- but i guess the dj played it when i was out of the ballroom for 10 minutes and i walked in on that song…

My Fiance and are both caucasion.. but we have a pretty diverse group of friends, and are pretty eclectic with our musical tastes. We will have everything from Pop to country to rap. Honestly, as long as no one is offended by anything.. play a bit of everything!

@HonoraryNerd: Of all the weddings I’ve been to (they’ve all been weddings of white people), the DJ plays mostly top 40….whatever is on the pop radio stations mixed with dance music like Pitbull & Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, David Guetta, There are also some wedding classics like “Shout”, “Don’t Stop Believing”, or anything by Run DMC at many weddings.
ETA-Forgot to mention, Fiance and I will have mostly hip hop, and we are white. We really just want music that makes us want to dance…and for us, that’s Jay-Z, Kanye, Rick Ross, etc.

I had a cheesy rock playlist, but nobody danced until much later in the night because it was soooo hot!

We had a mix of 90’s and 2000’s pop with some classic rock (doobie brothers, boston, etc.) and some indie/hipstery music we like peppered in.
