We had an after party back at the hotel.  Our reception ended at 9:30, so people were still ready to hang out and plenty of them were staying at the hotel.  It started in my parent’s suite but then they kicked everyone out and we all ended up in our room.   I ended the party by climbing in bed in my pj’s around 2am.

It was fun though.  I just didn’t want the party to end…well at 2am I did but you get what I mean.

@HoneyBear: I haven’t gotten married yet, but I would love an impromptu after party! We’ll probably not make a big deal out of it, but mention it to the partiers who are in for the long haul if we still feel up to partying-on at the end of the night.

My Future Sister-In-Law had one at her wedding last summer and it was a ton of fun. Actually her uncle had it and provided alcohol, small sandwiches because by that time people are hungry again! I think her reception went till 11 so by the time we were at the hotel it was 1130 or so.

I would like to have one, but dont really want to ask anyone to host it. I am kind of hoping the same uncle will do it again!

We didn’t have an after party since we stayed at another hotel near the airport since our flight was early the next morning. I sort of wanted to spend time with my husband that night. I have gone to a couple of wedding with after parties and I feel that the guests are still up for partying but a lot of times the bride and groom seem too exhausted.

We had the after party at the hotel bar. The reception ended around 7:30 on a Sunday, so we all went back to the hotel bar and stayed there with family and friends until around midnight when everyone just took the elevator up to their rooms.

It was a great way to spend more time with guests. There were so many people that I feel like I didn’t get to see/talk to ask much as I wanted at the reception.

We are having one only because our venue kicks us out at 6pm. ^_^

we didn’t plan ours–it was an impromptu thing where lots of people just went to the same bar afterwards–and it was great! we hadn’t had much chance to talk to our friends, so it was good to just sit and chat. much more relaxed and informal.

Oh – and I was starrrrrvvvinng. I didn’t really eat much at the reception & I think I ordered one of everything they had on the menu at the hotel bar/restaurant! That was fabulous, I was feeling so light-headed from it all!

How exciting! I am totally up for having an afrter party. I was going to book a nice room for us at a hotel after the reception, but I think if we have an after party I would want it to be in our home. We only live 10 minutes from where the reception would be and have 3 spare rooms for guests if need be.  I could plan some kind of beverages and finger foods at the house afterwards… I think that’s going to be my plan. I much rather sleep in my own bed that night and not have to worry about getting up and checking out in a rush the next day.

Yes, and yes. We had an afterparty at a local bar. It was definitely fun just hanging out, having some drinks, and getting to spend more time with our guests. I’ve been to a a few after parties as well and they’ve all been back at the hotel where the guests and bride/groom are staying.
