We didn’t have bridsmaids and groomsmen, but we definitely would’ve gotten them gifts if we did.  The people we did buy gifts for were our musician/officiant (because they really went above and beyond and charged us only $100 each for their services — we gave them a nice gift basket with cards thanking each of them, a tip, some nice chocolate, a bottle of nice rum from DH’s home country, etc), the venue owners and their event coordinator (since they went above and beyond and acted like DOCs without charging us) and my cousin (who does makeup for a living and did mine for free).

There were other people who really went out of their way for us (for example, my aunt who paid for, arranged, transported, and set up all the flowers), but we didn’t get gifts for them because we felt like they would probably think that we were using the money they gave us or we saved to buy them presents when they are in a position to buy themselves what they like and there weren’t any obvious sentimental type things we could do prior to the wedding.  So instead, we waited until after the wedding and printed out photos to include in very gush-y thank you cards explaining how much all their efforts made a difference for us.  They seemed happy with that!

Aww, I hear ya girl. Our gifts for people ran us up a hefty bill.

Do what you feel is best for your own personal situation.

I’m doing gifts for the bridesmaids. For the mothers/grandmothers, I’m considering gifts, but not totally sold on the idea–they already have full jewelry collections and our mothers don’t wear theirs much.

One source of affordable but nice presents: YouPearl. I ordered from them a while back, really nervous because they’re in China (but happy that I could use PayPal instead of giving them my card info), but I got my package and it was exactly as I’d hoped. Good stuff, and it came in under 10 bucks to get each bridesmaid a 16″ rice pearl necklace and a pair of stud button pearl earrings.

(Groomsmen is something else altogether. My Fiance refuses to decide on his men at this point, and I’ve just sort of said, “Ten bucks or less a person, whatever.”)
