i am currently a size 18, and would really like to be a size 10. when i was in college i went from an 18 to an 8 in just 7 months, which i admit was probably a bit too quickly. i did do it just by eating less and working out more (ok, eating a LOT less….). however, i have almost a year and a half, and i just want to stay very focused on my weight loss goals…i have to lose an average of 6 lbs a month to get to my goal (i know this because i know what weight i am in different sizes). the wedding is just a great excuse and a firm goal in mind for me to focus on to help me reach my overall goal, i need to lose this weight! has anyone else put their money where their mouth is and really lost a LOT of weight before their wedding?

6 lbs in a month can be completely healthy. You should check out sparkpeople. They help you keep track of your diet so you can count calories.

I had an 18 month engagement and have lost about 29 pounds so far. I’d like to lose 6 more, but it doesn’t matter to me if I do that before the wedding or not. My goal is to make this weightloss permanent, so I’m not willing to go to any extremes and risk yo yo-ing.
I used Weight Watchers to do it and overall have averaged about 1/2 pound a week. That includes weeks where I lost like 2 pounds, and about 5 months where I just plateaued and didn’t really push it.
To lose 6 pounds a month (3500 cal * 6 lb divided by 30 days) you’d need to burn 700 calories more than you intake on average per day.
I think you can totally do this! And as I learned along the way, even being 5 pounds away by the date is not a big deal because so much other progress has been made. Get as far as you can and be pleased with that! Good luck, corleycolorado!!

It took me 8 months to lose 20 pounds, and that was a lot for me. I tracked all my calories on http://www.dailyburn.com and worked out. As pp’s have said, I think your goal is very doable and sustainable, as long as it’s done the right way! Good luck, corley! You’ll do great!
