I came across a YouTube video of a scene in an independent movie, the kind that not famous actors do. In fact I think the video clip was one of the girl’s demo reel. The scene was a 30ish year old man, short and fat, leaving the bar with a girl on each arm (the implication being he’s going to get lucky.) One girl was very short and a little chubby, but cute. About 5’2, maybe 150, with short auburn hair. The other girl was about 5’6, long blonde hair, pretty, not perfectly skinny but nice curvy chest, about 138 pounds. Both girls were under 25 years old by appearance. So that’s the scene..There were only a couple hundred hits and one comment that read:
“Both those girls are fat and ugly. The guy must be drunk. Really drunk.”
I am really bothered by this because it points to an outrageous double standard about men and women. Where did this come from? How do we extinguish it? Why must a short, fat guy be “really drunk” to leave the bar with 2 girls who aren’t quite 10’s???? I know it shouldn’t bother me this much, but perceptions like that throw off the curve for all of us.
