@future_mrs_s:  The ushers can really be whoever you want them to be!!  We had my Brother-In-Law and one of my best guy friends do it.

You could even put up a sign pointing in the direction we should go.  Our ushers were our groomsmen.

Our ushers are two family friends. We only need 2 so I asked my dad’s best friend (I refer to him as one of my “uncles”) and FI’s groomsmaid’s husband to be the other usher.

Whoever you want!  I had my Brother-In-Law and MOH’s boyfriend do it.

We just had a few of our groomsmen take on the role of usher.

We just had greeters, not ushers, handing out programs and telling people to go inside and sit where they want. They were two of my cousins that we literally didn’t pick out until the weekend of, but they were staying with my parents, super friendly girls and had dresses nice enough that it worked really well.

You can use whoever you want.  I’ve seen groomsmen used before to be ushers and flowers girls to hand out programs.  I’m using my brothers since they aren’t groomsmen.  Or you could just make a sign

Ours are FH’s friends from high school that aren’t as close as the GMs. FH has been one in his cousins’ weddings. So family or close friends not in the Wedding Party are usually the users.
