I asked my girls to decide between them (there were 2) whether they wanted their hair up or down. I hate half up/half down, so that was off the table. They chose up. One did her hair herself and just tied it back in a smooth pony with hair wrapped around the tie. The other had her hair done in an updo with a french braid sweeping back form one side into a mass of interwoven hair at the back.

all of the girls in my party have a bob between shoulder length and chin length so we are all getting it just curled. We all like doing it that way too so it was easy for us.

    I think it’s a joint decision though

I’m going to let my girls choose how they’d like their hair.  As long as they’re comfortable and look presentable, I’ll be happy.

I am making my bridesmaids match almost completely (buying them matching necklaces, bracelets, earrings, shoes, dresses) but I don’t think I will mandate hair styles or makeup.  As far as hair, do yours have similar lengths? Mine do not. I have three, and one has short hair (can’t be put up), one has shoulder length (awkward to put up) and one has really long hair (I’d rather it be up) so I think I just will let them do their thing.

I let my girls choose their own hairstyles. They’re all adults capable of knowing what looks best on them. I didn’t feel the need to dictate something like their own heads.

@loving_life:  Just a word on shoulder length hair. Mine was about that long when I got married and I had a full updo. My BFF’s was just past her sholders and she did too. If your friend wants an updo, she probably actually has enough hair and may not know it. If she doesn’t, well then my post is irrelevant.

im going to let mine style it how they like.my only requirement is that they run a hair brush through their hair 😛

i think brides who insist on a stylist putting it up in a special do should pay for it. i may pay for my BMs to have it done how they like, depends on the budget

I let them pick, no guidelines (I also paid for their hair styling).

i just didn’t want my girls to wear their hair down. i feel like after a while hair that is left down (even if it starts out looking pretty) ends up looking messy and whatever style was in it has fallen out. so i told my girls they can wear their hair all up, or half-up, or do a low side pony…whatever. i just didn’t want it to be all down.

@loving_life: my hair is shoulder length and i’ll be wearing my hair up for my wedding, so it’s definitely possible to make an up-do happen if that’s what your bridesmaid wants. you just need to play around with it 🙂

@SakuraBlossomBee:  oh if the bride pays then i wouldnt mind if it was me. its just ive heard brides asking BMS to go for mani/pedis, hair stylist, makeup professionally etc and so forth on their dime, (plus the normal dress, shoes cost) and thats a bit much

i quite like having my hair done though, since im pretty useless at doing it by myself!

I think if you are paying to get the hair done, you can dictate what you want. Unless the girl absolutely hates a certain style because it looks bad on her or something.

I plan to pay for their hair because I’d prefer them to wear it up since I’ll be wearing mine up. But as to how exactly the updo looks, I’m open to their decisions.

@Pinkmoon:  Well, it depends on why you’re paying….if it’s a “gift” then no, I don’t think the bride can dictate.  If it’s “control” then yes, she can try to dictate, but then there is also the option to pay for oneself and decide onself.

OP, I for one really think that grown women, the women in your life you love enough to ask to stand beside you for your wedding, can make their own rational decisions about how to wear their hair.  My Boyfriend or Best Friend was just in a wedding and paid for the hairstyling herself (ie the bride did not cover hair or makeup) and the stylist asked the bride very pointedly what she wanted and made my friend look like a total moron with her ridiculous hair style (which was a side pony crazy ringlets fiasco).
