I did a recon trip on my own to scope out some shops without trying anything on.  Best idea ever.

I took my mom and sister to try things on, and a bmaid tagged along for on session my sister couldnt come to.  Once I narrowed it down to 1-2 dresses, I brought my grandma, FI’s mom, and FI’s grandma to see it.

I had fully intended to go on several small trips, taking a few different people each time… But I ended up finding and buying my dress on the first trip with just my mom and FMIL!  I was contemplating doing a second trip with my Maid/Matron of Honor and two BMs that I know wanted to go, but I’m not sure it’s a good idea… I’d hate to find another dress I like more than the one I already ordered!

In any case, I think the group size was perfect… Both moms get along great, and while they shared ideas when I asked for them, they weren’t pushy and left things up to me.  If I’d had my Maid/Matron of Honor and the BMs with me, I’m sure I would’ve been confused and stressed the whole time.

I say you need to think about 1 thing: who is going to be supportive of what YOU want, not what they want.  I took several different people at several occassions.  I took my aunt (we live near each other and have a close relationship) most times.  I took my sister, my mom, and a cousin.  My sister, whom I love dearly, had a huge impact on my dress shopping (negatively) because our styles are so different…there was NO middle ground.  It wasn’t much fun when I found something I loved, and there was no one else to share that feeling with.  I’d say find 1, possibly 2 people that will just let YOU  make the decision, and support you.  It’s about what YOU YOU YOU want, and sometimes having a bunch of people can make you forget that.

The first time I went I took my mom, Bridesmaids, my litle sister, and another friend. Everyone was fine, but one of my Bridesmaids. All of the other times I went I had way less people.

The first time was my mom and a friend. The second time was two friends. After that, I flew solo, which was much better.

I worry about this… My grandmother will be buying my dress, so she will definately be there… but my mom will want to come and my sister and my two best friends… and possibly the other two girls who will be bridesmaids.

I honestly think I’m going to do a little here and little there and then take the whole group or just gma, mom, sister when i have it all narrowed down and I’m ready to make a decision.  I’m not even engaged yet, and I’m already stressed about it! ha

My mom and I are planning to go next week for my first dress-shopping experience. I know one of my BMs really wants to come at some point, so maybe I will narrow down a few dresses and then bring her back to have a look.

i want to go just with my mom but i know my Maid/Matron of Honor is dying to come (i went with her) and another Bridesmaid or Best Man or two would like to come too. my mom and i actually have a “secret” dress shopping excursion planned for just the two of us, but i’ll probably take my Maid/Matron of Honor along for subsequent excursions.

My mom and sister and I wouldn’t want it any different. I LOVED trying on dresses and I really love the one they helped me find. I had a lot of people who wanted to go with me, but I just wasn’t into that.

I took my mom and Future Mother-In-Law (whom I adore), my little sister met up with us later after the dress was picked though I would have loved to include her as well.
