I would think you would tell everyone. I would not treat this any different than any other marriage announcement just because you eloped.

mariannemm :  Fiance and I were goigng to have just immediate family join us at our elopment and then announce after. But now we have about 40 people for a small backyard wedding but other than those people I haven’t told anyone and will still likely send out an announcement after.

I did not send out announcements, although I thought about it. I think it seems very gift grabby.

I’d planned to send a “we DID!” kind of announcement, like this:

    http://www.zazzle.com/bahamas_we_eloped_reception_invite-161457928592899010

and H even wanted to buy cupcakes and ship them to people (somehow he thought that would work) had all our friends and family (the ones we count, anyway) not already known, and not already come up with ways to celebrate with us.  All of them treated it as though we had a ‘real’ wedding, insisting on showers and bachelor parties to make up for not being at the actual ceremony, we were told if we did not set up a registry of things we wanted, we’d still get gifts of things we didn’t necessarily need.  So we did.  We had intended on none of the above, but friends insisted.

We simply eloped because it was easiest on him to not be in front of people, feeling judged, and it was the only way we’d have a wedding AND a honeymoon, to run away and do it at the honeymoon location.

mariannemm :  yes – we did that math, and to have a simple cake and punch reception close by, we’d spend more for a beach wedding an hour away than we did for a week in Jamaica, wedding included with a 6-night resort stay.  The resort handled everything, even told us when and where to be the morning of the ceremony, and led us through the paces.  H could not have done it with family or friends watching – he gets self conscious very easily.

We told our parents and a handful of very close friends. We have now eloped and are going to be telling close family then close friends, then just announcing it on Facebook. We are currently on a 9 month holiday overseas, so didn’t see a point in sending out announcements 🙂

We contacted our close friends and family ( originally we were having a big wedding then changed it to an elopement a few months before) so that they were still included. Afterwards everyone else found out through the grapevine and the occasional picture that popped up on social media. We have zero regrets about eloping. It allowed us our dream wedding ( beach ceremony) without a costly price tag.

We eloped yesterday! All our close friends and family knew. I posted a picture to make the announcement on Facebook this morning for the rest of the world, and sent it through text to the people who aren’t on Facebook:)

so far the reception has been great! Though it’s only been a few hours!
