If someone is not engaged yet, then they don’t know what their date will be.  Or signed up after they got married, then they can out whatever for the date.  I think it has more to do with not having a date than with anonymity.

When registering the site specifically asks you to add a date, even if you don’t have one yet.

I dont understand it either. I think, from what I have seen, they want to stay anonymous. I always wonder…who cares that much though? If I saw someone I knew on here I could careless. I guess to each his/her own.

ETA: I forgot about the other part that PPs have said: the site makes you pick a date.

You have to pick a date.  I’m waiting for my official engagment and will *probably* get married then, but who knows…it could change when we get closer.

Or you could be like my brother who got engaged in December 2008 with a plan of a September 2010 wedding, but broke up with is Fiance, then got back together and had a May 2010 wedding.

I don’t understand why people care about this so much.

I heard it’s so people couldn’t crash your wedding. Most of us post our venue at some point and other details, so I guess it could heppen? Though I doubt it has ever happened…

@Kimberley25:  I have no idea when we will get “officially” married but I assume some time next year. We are already legally married, so I’m not too fussed about a date. Also, I have NO IDEA how to make my location or any other details visible when I post, so that’s my answer for why it isn’t there. I’ve often wondered though.

@figgnewton:  +1

I opted for a fake date, because I origionally had my real one and then someone IRL “outed” me. It wasn’t a huge deal, just kind of like “hey I know your starfish0116” during a conversation. Kind of creeped me out because I do like to keep myself private here.

@MrsPanda99:  Go back into your profile and you can change the settings. That’s why I don’t have a date or anything listed anymore. now I show where I’m at. I had to put myself as “other” so that way I don’t have to have a wedding date in there.
