We’re trying to keep the numbers for our rehearsal dinner low, and we aren’t sure if we are supposed to have the brida party bring dates and possibly children to the rehearsal dinner. Also, is it customary to invite out of town guests? Thanks for your advice! 🙂

Traditionally the rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents to thank the wedding party for their support and time and to ensure that both families have met prior to the wedding. It is customary to also invite their SO’s. Others invited are immediate family and grandparents on both sides.
It is not necessary to invite the children of the wedding party or OOT’s. Some hosts do invite the OOT’s so they can be sure to have some time with those who travelled for the wedding, but this is totally optional and not an expectation. For some weddings , that would mean inviting all or almost all the guests!

Typically it’s anyone who is involved in the actual wedding (not just a guest) and out of town guests. That being said, you can do pretty much what you want. I’d love to just have the wedding party, but Future Mother-In-Law wants all the aunts and uncles there too.
