We’re already married, but I can’t move to his state until I can find a job there.  This has been very difficult so far.  He can’t move to my state because he makes more than I do and his job is very stable.  He would take a major pay cut if he moved here.

It’s still a year away, but my SO and I are moving to a different state in October after the wedding… about 5 hours away from where we live now. I’m sad to be moving farther away from my family, but excited to finally be able to settle down!

We moved across the country a little over a month after we got married last year.  I’m still adjusting!

Not immediately after the wedding, but our plans include moving to another state within less than 2 years (mainly depends on when we find jobs).

my fi and i are getting married in our hometown in upstate ny, but are planning the wedding from maine where i go to school, then right after the wedding, we are moving to chicago for fi to get his mfa.

so we are moving from maine to ny right before the wedding, crashing at our parents for a couple weeks then moving to chiacgo a couple weeks after the wedding!! it gives heart palpitations just thinking about it!

I certainly know this stress too! I lived in NYC during our engagement, Fiance was in TX, then moved to Ohio where he got a new job and we’ll settle this coming year. I just quit my job and moved my stuff to Ohio 3 weeks before our wedding and now it’s crunch time for the wedding and job hunting!

I thought moving my stuff before the wedding would settle some anxiety but it actually made me more nervous about not having a job yet….lesson learned for me would be wait till after the wedding to move!

@SM1982:wait you’re already married but can’t move to the same state as him bc you don’t have a job? wouldn’t he support you long enough for you to look for a job in his state…sorry i’m being nosey but that just seems odd to me

@ashleykaye15: He would be more than happy to have me quit my current job (which I loathe) so I can move up there right away and look for a job while living there.  (Looking for a job up there while living and working two and a half hours away is extremely difficult). Unfortunately, this is not an option for us since I have a lot of student loan debt to pay back in addition to my car payments and he can not afford to support both of us on his salary alone.

I’ve been applying online via many job websites and I’m not receiving any phone calls.  I have a M.A. in Healthcare Administration and I applied for jobs in this field; however, I am not receiving any calls.  Last week I was talking with someone who told me that he applied to hundreds of jobs online and did not receive one call.  He suggested that I just walk into places and ask to speak to the HR manager and hand in my resume in person.  He said once he started doing this, he secured a position within a few weeks.  Obviously this is difficult for me to do since I am two and a half hours away.

So…I have asked my current job about working 10 hour days four days a week so I can have Fridays off to take care of personal things.  They have no idea I’m looking for another job.  They believe that I’m staying there. In the past I asked about getting a laptop so I can work from home three days a week and drive into the office two days a week.  They said no to this.  The request to work 40 hours in four days will probably be denied as well, though I will argue them on this point if it is. I gave them these reasons that my request should not be denied:  I’m not costing the company any additional money to do this, I’d still be working my 40+ hours every week, and I rarely ask them for anything.  This next part I did not tell them:  As a side note, I have a co-worker who walks in at a different time every day (sometimes at 1 p.m., 12 noon, 11:30 a.m. etc.  The official start time is 8:30 a.m.  However it’s okay that this person does this because he is a favorite).

I’m sorry I rambled, but it feels good to vent since this has been bothering me.

We are moving from Washington to Oklahoma. I am not the least bit excited at all. I am starting to worry about it.

@danadelphia:  Perhaps this is a stupid question, but would that be Portland, Maine or Portland, Oregon?
