I hate Valentine’s Day! It’s a stupid holiday, IMO. All the pressure on men to spend money.
Darling Husband got me a bag of Reese’s Pieces (from the gas station on the way home from work) and I got him a huge bag of beef jerky, one of his favorite treats (during an unexpected trip to Walmart to get Valentine’s for my son’s daycare the Monday night). Darling Husband isn’t the best with gifts or huge romantic gestures, but he loves me and DS more than anything in the world and makes sure I know it every single day.
He asked about flowers after the fact, since every person we know was posting pictures on FB of floral arrangements they had been sent. I thought about it, and while it would be nice to be surprised at work, I really wouldn’t want Darling Husband to spend money on flowers. And seriously, $4-5 for a card? Not happening.
I feel like Valentine’s Day is a day to set up men for failure because woman have ridiculously high expectations.
At least it’s over.

@mrstilly: well eventhought we didnt skip it (we went out to dinner) i do get what you are saying. yesturday everyone was getting flowers and stuff delivered to the job and one of my rude co-workers said “what no flowers or ballons for you?” and it relly pissed me off.
then my mother said some thing to me that is very true. she said that atleast i have some one who loves me for real and doesnt only show it one day a year. sure every one got flowers delivered, but my Fiance treats me like a princess every day and i dont need flowers or candies or jewlery to prove it.

@FEFE215: Ugh I got a few of those comments too. I finally said to one of them “Not that it’s any of your business, but my husband actually remodeled our bathroom for me as a Valentine’s Day gift. But yeah…your flowers are cute.” That shut her up.
We cooked dinner together and watched food network, it was a nice evening in. Although I did splurge and went to the bakery where we got our wedding cupcakes from and brought a few home for dessert. That was our celebration, no cards or flowers needed!

Fiance was asleep when I got home and I had to work so we didn’t do anything. He is out of a job so he didn’t get me anything, but I never expected him to. I bought him a Spiderman ski mask – real romantic! 😛

Yeah my office was full of flowers and candy yesterday too. We just had a normal old night at home together and it was just fine 🙂 I did however, make those bacon roses (see other post) but if it weren’t for that, we’d have probably just skipped on past it like we normally do.

@misspeanut: haha your story is awesome 🙂
we decided to purchase our wedding bands yesterdays – 2 birds, 1 stone 🙂
then we drank wine and watched dirty dancing in bed! so it wasn’t anything ‘special’ but it was a perfect evening 🙂

My husband was away on business, so we didn’t do anything. He sent me a text that said Happy Valentine’s Day and I’d put a card in his suitcase. We talked before bed last night. We usually go out to dinner and are exta sweet to one another, but don’t ever buy flowers or other gifts. Darling Husband sometimes gets me a card, but not always. I feel like V-Day is too soon after Christmas to spend more money…

We kind of celebrated and kind of didnt’… Just made a big dinner together, watched some Netflix, and had dessert (which we never do!) from the bakery. He did bring me flowers from the supermarket, but I know my favorites and they’re about $3 a bunch, so he definitely didn’t splurge on $50 delivery… just a sweet little night in 🙂

We didn’t do anything either. Hubs actually forgot it was Valentines day until he got home from work and we were going to pick up my car (it left me stranded at the bank earlier in the day) and I said Happy Valentines to him.
We adopted a puppy about 2 weeks ago, so that was present enough

We did! My brother had a performance at the Kennedy Center so we went there (with my mom, dad and stepmom as well) then after we went home, ordered pizza, took the dog on a walk and hung out in our sweats. It wasn’t unlike any other day, but it was nice!

We ate greasy Chinese food and I bought him a belt. The romance was truly palpable yesterday.
