It’s your decision and solely your decision. I’d rather have less funding than someone dictating who was in my bridal party.

The bridal party is the couples to decide. If your mother wants your cousin included and is paying for the bulk of the wedding, then I would just include your cousin to prevent any family drama.

If you are that against your cousin being a Bridesmaid or Best Man, then pay for your own wedding.

I think she would have a say if she was paying for the whole wedding (but it would still be wrong for her to attempt to influence your decision). But I don’t think she has a say as it stands with her giving you half the money.

My mom tried to pull something similar because her and my dad are taking care of the whole reception. We agreed that the brial party was off-limits, but that relative could be a reader in our Catholic wedding ceremony. There are so many other ‘roles’ that can be filled and surprisngly your parents may also agree.. Just a suggestion.

I think it also depends on your culture and your family’s tradition.  In some cultures, Family is who you chose for your bridal party.  And that’s it.  And you have to chose cousins that you aren’t close with because you are expected to.  That’s tradition.

If it means so much to your mom, why don’t you just allow your cousin to be a bridesmaid? I’m sure she’s a nice girl, and would feel honored.  Friends will come and go, but you are stuck with family FOREVER.

Just a thought.  Personally, you should do what you feel in your heart is right.
