@Sea_Ashley:  I don’t. If my dog doesn’t bark, I don’t see a reason to get up. Granted, we have a small 1,100 sq ft apartment, so there’s no downstairs or anything.

My husband checks since he’s the firearm expert.

I voted “it depends” because I stay up later, and if I hear something I will probaby check on it. I also double and triple check to make sure everything is locked, because I fear that someone could break in. However, if we were both asleep or I was seriously afraid, my hunny bunny would go check on it! 🙂

It depends on the noise.  My Darling Husband was in the army – so if he hears a strange noise he usually freezes and listens for it again. If its something suspicious to him (and not just the cats) he goes and checks it out.  If its not something suspicious…ill check it out

I am incredibly paranoid about a lot of things: house fires resulting from a curling iron/stove/coffee pot, the dogs choking on their food, not locking the front door…and home invasions.

You could probably chalk it up to a combination of my law enforcement side of the family telling me horror stories growing up and some anarchist/survivalist friends and relatives beating ‘preparedness’ into my head on a regular basis.

No matter the cause, exposure to the above-mentioned factors (in addition to my love of all things scary) have resulted in me hearing every single solitary noise at night. And yes, I absolutely get up to check it out the second I hear it :-p

We usually both do.  If I don’t wake up he’ll just go and check it out himself. But if it’s loud enough to wake us both up we’re both clambering to find the nearest weapon to check it out.  He used to try and make me stay in the bedroom (to protect me) but that didn’t work out so well.  If he’s going out there, then by golly I am too! Nothing is going to get to my loved ones if I have anything to do about it! haha That being said, there haven’t been many incidences requiring the full on rambo mode.

I did scare the hell out of him last night by accident. He’s a snorer and brings me ear plugs from work.  I awoke last night to the melodic sawing of logs so I got up and went to open up a package and scared the poor bejeezus out of him. Said if he’d had a gun he would have shot me.  That, honey, is why we only keep knives in direct reach of the bed. lol

He typically goes, but I stand on high alert with weapon in hand just in case. Sometimes I do go with him.

I’ll usually hear the noise but rarely do I get up unless it’s something that makes the dog start barking. If our dog is acting defensive then I’ll wake up my husband and he’ll check it out, gun in hand.

My dog does! Haha, I probably wouldn’t even notice “bumps” if the darned dog didn’t start howling everytime a noise is made! Most times it’s the guinea pigs running around their cage, or during the winter it may be a mouse that has found it’s way in the house (it’s an older house), which just means that I need to put out mouse traps!

Once my dog freaked out about a noise outside, so I let her out. BIG mistake. Turned out it was a skunk in the yard, which she attacked, killed, then rolled in it. In the middle of the night. Just what I wanted to do at 1:30 in the morning was spend an hour trying to scrub the smell out of her fur.
