I had my wedding AND honeymoon in Cancun!!

Here are my reviews of the resorts and activities in the area. I tried to be as realistic as possible (both positives and negatives)

My parents went to Cancun without me while I was in school. They said that they had a better time off the main streets that all of the cruise ship goers went to in the little back shops that the locals went to. There was also one restaurant they went to twice because it was so good. I’m pretty sure it was called las tortugas.

I stayed at the Gran Melia.  It was nice, I wouldn’t necessarily stay there again – not because there was anything wrong with at AT ALL, but I think there’s probably better places.  We were on a tight budget at the time, so I think for what we paid we got a great place for the price all in all.

It was a short trip, we didn’t venture out much so I don’t have much else to contribute 🙂

We stayed at Hyatt Regency, not bad, the breakfast was delicious

Try to avoid hurricane season if you can

We avoided the touristy beaches and went (after a bus ride and a boat ride) to Playa Mujeres (public beach) where we did a snorkeling trip and enjoyed drinks

Also book a trip to see the Chichen Itza! Silver jewelry is cheaper there. Usually these tours also include a trip by a cenote (underground lake) that you can jump in for a bit

@Treejewel19:  we have a home 3 hours from there and go to cancun/maya riviera all of the time.  we have been to a lot of resorts there and have experienced many excursions.  we are very, very familiar with the area.

do you want an all-inclusive resort or hotel?  do you want to stay in cancun or just south in the maya riviera?  puerto morelos is only 15 minutes south from the airport and 20 minutes from the cancun hotel zone.  also, playa del carmen is only 20 minutes away.  we like the now jade, ocean coral and marina el cid.  there are many others that we would go to there.

i guess it all depends on what your expectations are.  what do you want to do in your 4-5 days?  how much do you want to see?  if you want to see chichen itza, that is one full day alone.  do you like culture or adventure?  i can make some suggestions for both.

feel free to pm me with any questions.  you will have such a great time!!

@Treejewel19:  I’ve gone 3 times. I stayed at Sun Palace (or maybe it was Beach Palace…I cant remember). The other times I stayed at Rius. I tend to stay at a Riu no matter where I go bc I love them. I would go anytime except for Memorial Day weekend and spring break.
