ME!!!! Twice, once while passing a kidney stone (we had fourth row center seats….wasn’t about to pass that up!!!) and it was still awesome.
My Fiance loved it too and he isn’t a musical/broadway fan. I don’t think you really need to do anything to prepare other than buy a ticket. 🙂

I saw Wicked last year in Mpls, and haven’t seen Wiz of Oz in years… so no need to rehash it. Wicked is so awesome…

I’m going to see it next month as well…noticed your location, I’m assuming you’re seeing it in Durham? If so, I am too 🙂
Like PP’s have said, it’s not really necessary that you refresh your knowledge of the Wizard of Oz before you see Wicked, but of course it wouldn’t hurt! It’s a fun movie.
Not sure if you’ve read the book but I will say the book and the musical have COMPLETELY different emotion/feeling about them. But I love both!
You are going to love it!!

I saw it in London too! It was so good!

It was amazing…it is my fiances favorite!

I LOVE Wicked! Saw it in high school and am very sad that the next time they get close isn’t until 2013!
I don’t think you *have* to watch Oz first. If you have watched it, you’ll be fine. Although like a PP said, having it fresh in your mind helps you pick up on some of the little things.

The book was just SO different — I can’t believe they were able to take that story and turn it in to the musical.

It is soooo good! I saw it at the Fox in Atlanta a few years ago and loved it.
No need to refresh on the Wizard of Oz though (unless you just happen to want to watch it).

I hadn’t seen the Wizard of Oz in YEARS (like 10+) and it was still really enjoyable. I don’t think you necessarily need to see it to get what’s going on. Have fun! It’s a great production!

I’ve seen Wicked 6 but soon to be 7 times. Two times with OBC. Once with the OBC minus Norbert Leo Butz(Fiyero) Taye Diggs(Idina Menzel’s husband) played the role.
Twice in Chicago. Once in Kentuky.
I don’t think you need to watch Oz first but if you want to then go right ahead.

I’ve seen it 3 times now, you are in for a treat!! As long as you’ve seen the Wizard of Oz at sometime in your life and you know the general story, then you’re fine to go see it!
You saw OBC? So jealous……

Loved it! Re-watching The Wizard of Oz is a good idea because it explains the back story to quite a bit (ex: flying monkeys, ruby slippers, etc.)

I’ve seen it twice. It’s amazing!!! I hope you love it.
The Wizard of Oz was my favorite movie as a kid. I watched it nearly every day when I was in preschool. As much as I love the Wizard of Oz, I really don’t think watching it is going to do anything for you when you see Wicked.

OBC, imho, is/was the best way to see it. Each time has been great but there is something to be said for the people who literally originated that character on stage. OBC is where I fell in love with Idina Menzel whom I’ve actually met since seeing her all those years ago.
I get all silly, school girl giggly when I think about the first time I saw her on stage and then met her in person. lol

@Lolasmomma: I saw Wicked twice before actually seeing Wizard of Oz (yeah, I’m probably like the only person who hadn’t seen it). I finally saw Wizard of Oz and enjoyed Wicked waaaaay more the third time around.
