We are doing a first look so that we have plenty of time to get all of our pictures done. We are going to do most of our formal ones before the wedding so all we have to do afterwards is our fun ones with the wedding party. We will probably do something like this:

We are! Our wedding is only 4 hours, and 30 min or so of that will be ceremony – we want to get in there and enjoy the party.

Plus, I think we’re going to do them at a small independent book store near our venue. Which just makes my inner book nerd SO happy.

I’m still trying to convince my FH because he thinks a first look will spoil the moment I walk down the aisle. I want him to have a say in this, but I really want to do the first look. We have such a small window to get things done with formal family pictures and whatnot. I think that this would be special for us – just a little one on one time and then bring in the photographer!

We are taking all of our pics, first look, bridal party & family before the ceremony.

I want to enjoy the open bar & appetizers that I’m paying for during cocktail hour.  πŸ™‚

I have only budgeted 1 hour for photos of us and half an hour for family/ bridal party. I may need to re-evaluate that closer to day of….

@doily:

those pictures are so cute! what a nice idea.

i always thought i would want to wait until the ceremony, but i was told that if our borough is taken over by the next borough over, they may, for time keeping sakes, make the bride and groom meet before the ceremony to go through everything. i thought it was a really mean idea, but seeing these photos, i’m thinking maybe we can turn it into something fun with the photographer.

we are! our ceremony is after dinner, so our guests will arrive by 7pm, and it starts at 7:30, with the cocktail and “appy hour” being 8-9 during sunset. πŸ™‚

so, while we still of course take a few more photos after the ceremony, we will be taking most of the bridal party and family portraits in a nearby park in the late afternoon, and give everyone two hours for dinner, relaxing, touch ups, whatevs.

I’m quite excited by the first look photos. at first I was slightly disappointed, because for some strange reason I was emotionally attached to the first look being as I walk down the aisle….  but then I realized that it was so traditional and didn’t make sense for us, and since then we’ve decided that we want to walk down the aisle together, hand in hand.

we are also doing a first look.  i like the idea of being able to photograph our reactions unfiltered.  i know that if i wait until the actual ceremony to see him, i would want to at least tear up and when in front of people, i keep my emotions in check and that would be lacking in our photos.

So far, we’re doing a first look.  Things could change, but this is what we’ve been planning to do for now.
