I am just wondering who is doing a buffet for their wedding and also how much it is costing you? I have been looking on some caterers websites in my area and they are pricing it per person… example: one of them is $25.50 per person is that normal? It isnt a plated meal its a buffet… shouldnt it go by how much food you need?

At my venue, the buffet was more expensive. I think it was $60/pp vs the just under $50/pp we paid for plated. They are normally that way because a buffet requires more cleanup and there is usually more food consumed and wasted.

Mine is $35.99 per person including a dessert tray for each table and 3 hours of open bar

We are at about $36/pp including three apps for cocktail hour, the buffet, and all the rentals (linens, flatware, glassware, etc.) and of course all the labor, including bartenders.

Our reception is at Paula Deen’s restaurant, The Lady and Sons. We are doing her Southern dinner buffet for our guests- salad, bread, 2 meats, 10 sides, 2 desserts and tea and water for $25.65/person including tax and gratuity. (I was SHOCKED at how reasonable her prices were when I first considered them for our reception. This is not much different than what you pay when you eat there as a regular diner- maybe $5 total more.)

We’re doing a pasta buffet (3 kinds of pasta and sauces), and it’s $20 per person for replinished service. It also includes a salad, roll, and coffee/tea.

That’s pretty good. I think our caterer is around $40/pp. It would be the same amount if it were a plated meal, but we’d have to hire additional food servers.

I have no clue what ours will cost. My friend has a bbq catering business with her husband so they are catering for us. It is a late afternoon affair so bbq is perfect. From what I have read, 20-40 per person is the average.

We did a buffet. I think we ended up around $20.00 per person. That was for choice of 2 meats, salad, 2 sides, rolls, and 4 different apps. Whether it is plated or buffet you are paying for each serving of food.

We’re doing a buffet dinner, for 22.50P/P. We made sure it was actually a BUFFET before we booked, as well. Some vendors or restaurants that we looked at actually had it on their website that a buffet should not be considered all you can eat, and instead treated as allowing a person to go back a 2nd time. Not saying that my guests are going to take more than two trips, but just in case they did…I didn’t want them to feel like they weren’t “allowed”.

Wow!! thank you everyone… So if I have 60 people and they are charging me $30 a plate I can look at the bill for the buffet to be around $1,800 ?
