According to my aunt (who is planning my bridal shower)- you invite all the women who are family related on both sides. Of course not distant relatives, thats a different story, but aunts and cousins seems reasonable. Then if you have male guests and are allowing them to bring their wives/giflfriends/etc to the wedding, you DONT have to invite them to the shower. I’d say that even though you aren’t close, invite them and use it as a chance to get close. After all, they’re going to be your fam too!

I think you should invite both sides if they’re all local.  It’s a nice chance to introduce everyone to eachother.

If they live across the country or something that might look a little bit like you’re trying to get them to just send a gift, since people usually don’t travel very far for a shower.

We invited people from both sides, even if I don’t know them. I figure if they’re important to his family, then they’re important to me too now. We only invited local friends and family unless they were in the wedding.

I think that we’re only inviting local women to my shower as well.  All of his family & about half of mine live out of state… so it’s going to be a small shower.

Basically all women who were invited to the wedding were invited to the shower. We had about 200 guests, so half is about 100. I had about 25 at the shower. I guess it depends on who you want there.
