My dad passed away several years ago.  I thought about having my brother walk me but I decided I would rather have my mom do it.

I always wanted both my parents to walk me down the aisle together. My parents divorced about 4 years before our wedding and it was not a nice divorce. I still had a vision they would both walk me down the aisle. Call me selfish but thats what I wanted. Well a few weeks before the wedding told my dad. He claimed I was trying to take away his “father of the bride” role and flipped out. Said I could either have my mom or him not both. He was acting like a child. So my mom said she would be fine w it just being my dad. So it ended up just being my dad but I really wish he had been more mature and let my mom.

My mom and dad walked with me. It was great. They took equal part in raising me and it was a nice way to honor their partnership. I wasn’t cool with the idea of a man giving me away to another man, even though I love both my dad and DH, it just didn’t feel right! In fact, there was no “exchange” at all. I walked with them up the aisle, hugged them both (which was nice!) and then walked the rest of the way up a little hill to the ceremony spot by myself.

my daughters will walk me down the aisle.  They are 5 and 6 and since this journey has been just as much about them, I want them to be there when I join my Fiance and start our new journey as a family.

My dad will be. I’d actually kind of rather my mom do it, because I’m a lot closer to her, but it means a lot to my dad to do it, so he’s going to.

I had a large part in raising my mother (long story), and my dad wasn’t around much. Besides, as a total feminist, I find the idea of being given away to objectify me. I don’t disregard the support my parents have given me, but I made myself who I am, and I don’t want either of them walking me down the aisle.

I will have both my parents walk me down the aisle.  It’s actually a Jewish tradition to have both parents do it, and the groom’s parents walk him down the aisle as well.  We’re not religious, but consider ourselves culturally/ethnically Jewish, plus I like the symbolism.  It becomes less about one man handing a woman off to another man and more about two families showing their support for the marriage.
