My father has never been in the picture. My first wedding it was my mom and her fiance that walked me. My mom has been gone for almost 11 years now, and the fiance and she broke up before that.

My oldest male cousin, who is like a big brother to me is walking me. I asked him the night after Mike proposed to me. He said he would be honored.

I’m having both of my parents walk me halfway down the aisle to represent the part they played in bringing me to my adult life. The rest of the way I will walk myself to represent that I came to my Fiance on my own accord and as an adult. But then, I’ve always HATED the idea that someone “owned” me and could “give me away.” At first I wanted to just by myself, but the Fiance wanted to be more traditional so I found a way to make it work for me. It’s much more acceptable today to walk by yourself if you want, or with your mom, or with whoever you want! I even went to a wedding where the bride and groom walked down the aisle together!

My future Father-in-Law is walking me down the aisle :). I have both a father and a mother… but my father is not welcome at our wedding and my mother will meet us at the end of the aisle to give me away!

My mothers longtime boyfriend will be walking me down the aisle. He’s been my father figure since I was in Jr. High so I felt it only appropriate to give him that honor.

Until reading this thread I had planned on him actually giving me away but now I love

@Sah‘s idea of having my mother do it. It was only her and I for many years and she did an amaing job of raising me. She really is the person who should do it.

both of my parents are walking me down! I feel that I’m equally close to both of them, and that they have both shaped who I am today. I wouldn’t feel right only having my father walking me down.

@DCSquared: I’m in the SAME BOAT.  I don’t want my dad to feel bad, but my mom and I are REALLY close since I’m an only child.

I have a very good friend who is my Grandpa’s age and it was so hard to decide between him and my father. My friend has been there for me through thick and thin (he knows things I could never tell my dad) but for tradition sake and after talking to this friend and my soon to be husband we have decided to have my father walk me down. I have some issues with my dad though I love him so I am hoping all goes well.
