Wow if they have already spent $600 on a dress that you picked and alterations are $300 due to the specific fabric/design that you chose then I think you need to cover alterations.  I actually think it is a little outrageous that you are “in a pickle” over this.  If you are on a budget you should have been more considerate of them in the first place, skip the spa treatments and pay for the alterations.  Expecting bridesmaids to pay almost $1k just for the dress is too much in 99% of circles.

I’m in Australia and I paid for my girls’ dresses.  At that price, I would be extremely unhappy if I (as a bridesmaid) had to pay for alterations on top of the already extremely expensive dress.  My girls didn’t need alterations done, but if they had I would have paid.

Just to add, I assume that you are talking about Australian dollars rather than US ones, and therefore the $600 you are referring to may not be as much/outside the norm as it initially appears to some of the US bees? What is the average cost of a bridesmaid’s dress in Aus – just for context?

Really never heard of it?  It’s mentioned very often on these boards. UK brides for instance,  have always paid for their bridesmaids dresses.  US customs don’t prevail world wide you know…..

elderbee :  Of course I realize that. I suppose have not read any of those boards yet. I’ve only been on The Bee 5 months. I have much to learn ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป‍โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ
