I studied the bridal lines on the internet like there was going to be a test before I went to the shops. When I went to the shops, I pictures of the ones that I liked and wanted to try. Most places let me browse the racks, but the racks had essentially all of the same dresses as online. A couple of times consultants brought me something I hadn’t seen, but mostly we worked with my requests.
When i watch shows like SYTTD, the brides give a 2 sentence explanation of their style, and the consultants decide what they try. I can’t imagine giving over this much choice to a stranger. Did any of you have this kind of shopping experience? Did anyone prefer it?

A couple of the salons I went to picked for me . I preferred it and that was actually how I found my dress. When I went to places where I picked off the racks it was overwhelming and I quickly discovered I was a bad judge of what I would like based on what it looked like in the bag.

We picked mostly – we were encouraged to wander around the store after getting the lay of the land. But there were a few that the sales people threw in (both at David’s and at the boutique). And the ones they picked actually looked really nice, the people knew what they were doing.
I ended up picking one I chose myself, but that might have just been a matter of numbers – waaaay more dresses were my picks.

I did not enjoy my shopping experience. I brought pictures of dresses I wanted to try (and even emailed them ahead of time to see if they had two I was really interested in, which they replied that they did!).
The consultant let us look through the racks while she went to pull some dresses, but it was overwhelming to me. She pulled things she thought I would like, and they were horrible. She never pulled any of the ones I wanted to try and said they didn’t have the two I specifically emailed about. RAHR! My mom pulled one dress, and the consultant said no she won’t like that it’s too flowy…because she knows me and all. Then my mom and I pulled one dress, and it was a contender for the longest until I decided to go with a different one.
Thanks for letting me vent! LOL! It still gets me fired up, and it’s been over 2 months.

I brought pictures to both appointments. The first one didn’t actually have any of the dresses I brought, so the consultant picked dresses for me based on my pictures and what I told her I wanted.
The second salon had some dresses (maybe 50 max) out in the front area, and they told me to browse and see if there were any I liked. I picked a few from the front, and then the consultant used my pictures to pick more (some were the exact dresses in the pictures).

I am such a control freak that I had already picked out the dresses I wanted to try on (and none of them worked). However, the two top contenders ended up being dresses that two different consultants recommended that I try.
The dress I chose (Loretta-Sottero and Midgley) was dramatically different from what I had been trying on and thought I wanted but the consultant thought it would look great. She was right.

I made my picks with my consultant. We walked and talked about what I liked. I loved my consultant. She actually recommended the dress I eneded up with! So grateful for her! xo

When I went shopping I walked around and the dresses. I told the consultant what I had in mind, and she would pull things she thought I would like and show them to me. I would either “yay or nay” it before the fitting room, though. She never brought in any dresses without me seeing them first. I pretty much knew what I wanted, though, so there was no need for her to pull a dress in every fit or style or anything like that. If I had been unsure what type of dress I was looking for I would have loved for her to just bring me random dresses to try on.

We did the picking..because after ther 1st salon we went to picked for me..they just weren’t ‘getting it’.

I didn’t bring any pictures to my appointment and the dress I really wanted to see they didn’t have. I was able to browse myself and the consultant also suggested one… THE ONE. It was the first I tried on and the one I didn’t want to take off.

I had a ton of pictures of styles I liked that I brought with me. I ended up not even using them. The consultants were finishing up with other clients (we were early to our appointment) so they told us to feel free to browse around. We ended up pulling a few dresses ourselves. The sales associate also grabbed a few.

Most of the places I’ve been to, they allowed me to look and also brought some suggestions. I usually gave their suggestions a chance, because most of the time they can figure out your style after the first few dresses. Honestly I prefer this- I like getting to pick out a few, but I also like when they bring dresses I never would’ve picked on my own- often I was pleasantly surprised.
I did go to one place that wouldn’t allow me in the back and they brought out dresses one at a time. The first couple dresses were way off base, but after that my consultant did extremely well figuring out what I would and wouldn’t like.
Still searching for the dress though. I WILL find the perfect one!

The shop I went to had 3 massive books of gowns. I chose about 8, and one of them was a dress I had spied earlier online and was a favorite. The consultant pulled my favorite, and then pulled one of her own. I tried on the my favorite and LOVED it… Then I tried on the one she pulled for me and LOVED IT EVEN MORE!! I ended up choosing the dress that she pulled (same brand as my favorite but a style I might not have chosen from the picture alone).
I was skeptical about consultants choosing dresses but the one I worked with has a great eye for understanding what you want and knowing the dresses they carry. I am really glad I gave her a shot! She also picked my mom’s dress which is AMAZING.
My sister in law went to the same bridal shop, and the dress she ended up with was one a consultant had pulled as well. Remember that this is their full time job, and sometimes they really do know best!

The first place I went, the consultant dragged my mom and I around the store to see what we wanted to try on. At the 2nd place, we browsed racks, but the store owner found a dress I REALLY liked. I printed that dress out for the 3rd store, and there it was VERY similar to SYTTD where the consultant saw my dress pic and talked to me and then just pulled dresses on her own. EVERY dress I tried on looked AWESOME on me, even if it wasn’t necessarily the style or fabric I wanted. She knew what would look good on my body, and I got my dress at that store (one that she picked).

I had pretty much exactly the SYTTD experience, only better. I walked in and told the consultant what I thought I wanted. She looked me up and down and pulled a bunch of mermaids/trumpets, which I never in a million years would have thought I could pull off, and the first dress was THE dress.
