I’m having an outdoor ceremony, and was wondering… who starts the music for the processional/recessional songs? Do we need to pay for a DJ to be there for the ceremony? (We originally planned on just having the DJ there for 4 hours for the reception).

We’re trying to figure this out ourselves… we’ve technically paid for the DJ to be there, but am trying to figure out if we now have to pay for him to set up equipment in various areas and quickly run between them…. or what.

We’re having our DJ set-up outside to do it. He’ll also be playing music for 15 mins beforehand while guests arrive. We could have saved money by having a friend or family member do it, but we wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the moment and not have to worry about having a job to do.

Our sound ended up being rather DIY (unintentionally – thank God for a FIL and husband who know things about electrical equipment) — but we basically had a friend controlling the iPod who knew the cues. They were invited to the rehearsal and thanked in the program.

My coordinator is going to run my music. I’m using an iPod. But I also am not having a bridal party for her to worry about, so she said its not trouble to do music.

Yeah I’m not having a bridal party either… and sad to say, I don’t trust any of my friends/family members to start/stop the music on the right song/at the right time. I know we’ll have to rent a PA system of some kind… maybe i’ll just try and pay for the DJs extra time there. We’re trying to keep things within a small budget, but I really don’t see any other way around it.
