We hadn’t even TALKED about getting married, but when he asked me if I wanted to look at houses, I said “well hun, i think it’s a great time to buy, but if we’re going to think about buying a house, there are other conversations we’ll have to have before then too!” and he said “wanna go window shopping?”

We had a lot of conversations about our future and then one day he just took me ring shopping. I think I may have told him that I wanted to go? He knew I wanted to pick it out with him.

I loved it! We had a lot of fun ring shopping. It took us about 4 months and lots of shops before finding my sparkly.

It was a mutual decision, but I picked out my own ring.

My Darling Husband told me that he didn’t ever want to go ring shopping with me at all.  He wanted to pick out the ring entirely on his own so that what he chose would be a complete surprise to me.

He ultimately had one of my best friends ask me a couple ring related questions for him (like, maybe 3 questions).  And then he picked a GORGEOUS ring entirely on his own.

I suggested it- it was a bluff call while I was in waiting limbo. The first time he didn’t want to go and we got into a fight about it. Then he told me he did, but it wasn’t important to him until he saw how it made me feel.

About a month ago, I suggested ring shopping and he agreed to go that weekend. Then Friday rolled around and he had forgotten. So, a fight ensued. He said “I still will go.” ANd  I said “forget it. It’s ruined now. I don’t want to go for at least a couple of months now. And, if I ever do go, it won’t be because I brought it up.” So that’s how that went. Either way, he promised me that he would propose by September. Not sure how he is going to get the ring, but I swear to all that is holy, if I don’t get a proposal by September or October, I will leave. I will leave and I will be on a date the very next night. Sorry if that sounds harsh, I am not in a good mood today

@Jen4414: OH GOD My life is Everybody Loves Raymond too! His parents live in the same city as us, my family all lives hours and hours away, and he’s a big mama’s boy. His parents are all up in ALL of our business and it bugs the CRAP out of me. So glad I’m not the only one haha. Luckily for me they have nothing to do with our getting engaged (his parents treat us/our relationship like teenagers sometimes so I don’t think engagement is even on their radar)…I can’t imagine that. I feel for you haha 🙁

Oh and, to answer the question, I guess I suggested it first but he was on board and it was a mutual decision as to when we’d go.

He suguested it.. We knew that we were going to get married and we wanted to get engaged somewhat soon.. We wanted to be engaged before we actually were… but I then got pregnant after we started talking about it and didnt want to get engaged till after cause i knew eventually the ring wouldnt fit… But he wanted to go shopping so we did.. We picked it out togther and then at some point he bought it and then the proposal was a surprise.

We were on the topic of engagement and I suggested that I’d like to pick out the ring first and he agreed with me that it was the best idea. He had wanted to propose to me for awhile, but he was waiting until he could afford the ring and we mutually decided when to go shopping.
