I have been working at this company for the past 4-5 months and plan to stay for many years to come. My fiance and I will be getting married in January 2013.
At first I was happy to only invite those in my immediate team, but then that all changed when, during the 3rd month they swapped me to a new department. So I have all these friends and acquaintainces associated to work that is making things difficult:-
– the people that I’m closest and go to lunches every week. We met in work’s social events but don’t work together. Can I invite them but not my immediate team?
– my new team. Other then the new manager, I don’t talk to anyone else as we have different roles and don’t have anything in common. Akward!
– my old team. The old manager keeps asking for wedding details.
Its a very hard choice for me as my groom wants to invite all his colleagues so would it be weird if I got selective or didn’t invite any of mine?

I feel your frustration. I invited my boss, the secratary, and my team (2 people) I felt terrible not inviting others but I’m at 210!!

I would suggest invite those who you are closest too and your boss. You really don’t talk to your immediate co-workers so why have them at your wedding when it should be close family and friends.

I recently switched jobs and have been at my current company for 5 months. I’m not inviting anyone from here to my wedding (and none expect it so I’m sure that won’t be a surprise). While I enjoy the people I work with, I don’t think any of them have known me for long enough to share in something as intimate as my wedding celebration. That being said, the job that I came from, I was there for 5 years (and left on my own terms and still have great relationships there). So from my old job, I invited my ex-boss, my ex-manager and two girls from other departments that have turned into a couple of my closest friends!
