We did a pseudo all inclusive, but anyone that provided a service should probably get a tip…even your baker if they deliver. We did not tip our photogragher, but just received our images today…should think on it.

Did you have someone ýou weren’t sure about?

We tipped the DJ and my lovely hair/make-up ladies. The wait staff & bartenders at the venue had a 15% service charge included in the bill.

Generally you tip those who work (hourly) for others as opposed to owning their own businesses.

What about the florist? Ours delivered and did set up. I don’t remember if we tipped them or not, but I like the rule of thumb here.

PPLAngel:  I’m tipping my hairdresser/MUA, my wedding planner, DJ (her husband), photographer, wait staff and bar tenders, florist/baker, caterer… basically everyone. I don’t know HOW much to tip though.

I think this may be what I lean towards:

  • Hairstylist $50
  • Makeup Artist $50
  • Wedding Planner & DJ $150
  • Bar tenders/wait staff $40 each or what the caterer suggests
  • Florist/baker $100
  • Photographer $150 (we got the 2 person package)

We are probably going to let the bar tenders keep a tip jar on the bar. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

We “required” that no tip jars were allowed and the bartenders were told to refuse tips/let our guests know they were covered. The most uncomfortable part of a wedding, in my opinion, is fishing around for dollars to tip the bartender. It is such a relief and classy move to cover your guests’ tip!

If 15-20% doesn’t sound right for tip amounts ($600 on a $3k self employed photographer??) maybe consider what hourly tip rate seems ok. $10/hour for hair? $50/hour for hair? If your appointment is $150 (mine was for hair and makeup) and took about 90 minutes-I think we tipped $30. $20/hr.

PS I’m sure there is etiquette literature out there-I recall consulting a guide when we were wording our invitations.
