I would take that $700, and go find another “new” photographer that has shot weddings and have pics that you like.

Can’t you hire a second photographer to do the reception only?  Might be pricey, I know, but you want ceremony pictures done by somebody you trust and know will do a good job.

I would definitely take that $700 and go find another photographer who is willing to shoot the reception.

If you haven’t met the other photographer, then I would reserve judgement until then. You may meet and decide you don’t like him/her.

my wedding photographer is just starting out and she is WONDERFUL! The new photographer you are looking at may be awesome too!

I took a chance on a new photographer and paid right around $400. I thought our pictures came out really well when all was said and done!

They won’t even do the first hour of the reception to get those key shots? I would try to negotiate a bit if you haven’t already. 🙂

Do you have friends who have photography experience who you could ask to get good shots of those things? That would mean doing your own album and stuff if you wanted those shots included.

I’d meet with the second photographer, and if you don’t like her work, I’d look for someone else. The ceremony photos are the ones you’re most likely to hang in your house, but the reception photos make great albums–they’re more fun to look at later and they’re where you’re most likely to see everyone that you invited to celebrate with you! I wouldn’t go without them, and I’m sure you can find someone whose work you’re pretty happy with for $700 if you’d consider a newcomer for $400.

I definitely would not choose the one that doesn’t do receptions. My reception pictures were the ones I wanted and liked the most from my wedding, not the getting read or portraits.

I also vote find someone else all together. I can’t believe this photographer couple is in business if they don’t do receptions. They must not know how to use flash.

Find another photographer! That’s insane that the couple won’t do receptions. At the very least, youd think they would want to take it on to learn!

I’d search for a photographer that has experience and would do everything you want.
