Who's part of the spacer band club?

Sometimes I wear my rings like this. I’m tempted to get a teeny tiny rose gold band to put between the e-ring and the carved band, and just wear my platinum plain band my right hand (where it fits better anyway).

Got another rose gold band, this one is a better size for stacking between my rings !

vee1980 :  I adore your band! Sapphire with moissanite was one of my internal debates when chosing my band 🙂

I feel like I might’ve been living under a rock.. but does a spacer band serve a specific purpose other than aesthetics? I always thought the third ring may be an anniversary band or something alike!

Beautiful rings, by the way, ladies! 🙂

doodlesnflowers :  They do serve another purpose, in that some rings will rub against each other in such a way to cause a wearing away of the gold.  If this happens with the prongs, the side of the prongs I mean, that can cause them to lose stones.

So a spacer will hold the two rings apart but if it’s really thin, it’s not as noticeable.

20sparklingyears :  That makes a lot of sense! I should look into it when I pick out a band! Thank you 🙂

I never really understood the spacer ring thing. I heard it’s so the two rings don’t rub together and cause any damage. But the spacer is metal (gold) as well so aren’t the two rings still rubbing against the spacer ring and doing the same thing? I would love to be educated in this because I really don’t understand it.

ladyjay418 :  If the spacer is a softer metal, I’d assume the harder metals of the 2+ rings would scratch the spacer instead of itself/each other 🙂

Example: Spacer is gold, rings are platinum.

adreamdeferred :  but mostly everyone I’ve seen doing it is doing it with rose, yellow and white gold. And the first thread is even using silver which is really soft. Thank you for explaining it though. I do appreciate that. I’m really wanting to see the point of a spacer but I just don’t. It seems like people do it more for looks than it serving an actual purpose. I guess it’s just not for everyone and maybe I’ll understand it better one day lol ☺️ Everyone has some super gorgeous engagement rings on here by the way
