Neither the fiance or I are very religious and we are having a hard time figuring out who to do our wedding ceremony. I have no idea where to even start looking or who to even ask. Any information or direction to even get started would be wonderful!!!!

Darling Husband and I met on our university’s cross country team… Neither of us are religious (though our families are), and I wanted a very personal, outdoor ceremony so I asked our college coach to perform it. I got to write the ceremony from scratch which was super meaningful, it was very personalized since our coach knew us from the beginning of our relationship both separately and together, and we got tons of compliments on his officiating!! Looking back it was absolutely perfect for us. (Plus our coach doesn’t have any kids of his own, so I know he was honored and giddy to do that for us).

@ctina85: We arent religious either so we hired an officiant. I startled googling and checking out reviews and 2 weeks later I had hired someone we both liked.

A colleague/friend who is an excellent public speaker/writer and has 15+ years of marriage under her belt and gives great advice. She cried when I asked her.
She got “ordained” through Universal Life online church, which I verified through the county clerk’s office (in writing!) is acceptable in our state & county for someone to be able to legally marry us.

- Wedding: October 2011 - Bed & Breakfast
Our friend got ordained online (Church of the Latter Day Dude, no less!) to perform our ceremony. He did a great job. If you are interested in this option, just check with the clerk’s office in the county where you are getting married to verify that an internet ordination is sufficient.

We hired an officiant who wrote a ceremony specially for us. We loved her and it was well worth the money.

- Wedding: November 2011 - Florida Aquarium
My brother married us. It was awesome! We wrote the ceremony, and it was super special. We got legally married at the Clerk of the Court’s office the same week, to make there were questions surrounding our marriage. (I was just being weird… getting ordained online is totally legal. I just didn’t want to like, forget to mail the certificate back or something. At the Clerk’s office, we walked out with our license.)

My godfather performed a civil wedding for us. It was meaningful because it was someone who has been a hgue supporter in my life, and welcoming to my Darling Husband as soon as he met my family.

One of my college friends offered to do it and I am SO excited to have him perform the ceremony…I’m just hoping he’s available when we choose our new date! My OTHER friend who is also ordained is moving out of the country this summer, so we don’t have a backup anymore!

@ctina85: my FIs father…he’s a minister

My brother passed away a few years ago and his best friend is now a pastor! We are going to have him marry us. I think whoever marries you should be someone who knows you well and are special in your life. It could be anyone you would like… an Uncle, family friend, or a mentor!

@ctina85: The best man’s uncle is performing our ceremony. He is shorter than I am (and I’m 5’2″), looks exactly like the Big Boy except with a ponytail, owns 2 bars and a motorcycle shop, and just happens to be an ordained minister. He is perfect for us!

@ctina85: Originally we were going to have the mayor of the city I grew up in marry us, but he fell through.. I searched online & found several people, but was shocked @ the $400-$600 price tags!! For a 20 minute ceremony.. and then extra to come to the rehearsal?! No thank you. So I reached out on Facebook & asked around. A friend of mine was getting married & had somehow found a guy, who lives near us, that is legally allowed to marry people & just does it on the side, he works a regular full time job. So we met him, hit it off right away & booked him. He’s charging us $200, will be coming to the rehearsal, will be arriving an hour early the day of the wedding to make sure everything is the way we want it.. and we had a pre-rehearsal with him a few weeks ago so the 3 of us could go over everything without the bridal party & parents being there. We really lucked out finding this guy!
And NE Ohio brides need someone to marry them, let me know! I recommend him big time!
