Our officiant sent over a draft of our ceremony last night (3 months late, 17 days before the wedding, wiht the wrong wedding date at the top) and apparently disregarded every single note he took during our meeting. I calmly thanked him for the first draft and went to work on “fixing” it to reflect the joyous event we’re celebrating. Shudder.
I have a couple books to help that I bought months ago when it was clear he wasn’t getting us the draft in May as he promised. I’ve come up with elements that I think reflect us really well, and incorporate enough of Christian elements satisfy my Fiance without ringing untrue to my personal beliefs, but I’m stuck on one thing:
Whose name goes first throughout the ceremony???
We are gatherered here today to witness the union of Bride and Groom or Groom and Bride?
Everything I’ve read says bride goes before groom until after the marriage. Am I out of my mind? It just felt so strange to me to see the very first page state “the marriage of Groom and Bride, Date” when all our invitations, programs, etc. have said bride and groom.
Please help hive, what is proper etiquette?
