Hi Everyone, I’ve been writing about this a lot on the boards for two reasons. The first is because I’m a Wedding Planner and am always interested in what brides opinions are! The second because I’m not sold on this new wedding trend. I love them for the corporate however I have yet to have done them for a wedding. The history of the wedding cake goes far back in our history and has evolved over time into the “Amazing Wedding Cakes” we see today, so of course as with time and styles why wouldn’t this one? I just want to know people’s opinions on this and if anyone has used them? I recently had a bride ask me if I had cupcakes stands which got me to further investigate them and they are very pretty. I think they look very nice in informal or unique wedding settings however think that when looking towards the formal aspect a wedding cake would still be the way to go. What do you think?

It was never a question of would I, everyone knows that I adore cupcakes and think they are the world’s most perfect food, in the sweet category. French fries in the savory category!

They are an in trend right now, go ahead if you want ’em!
It’s your day!

Maybe you could do a top tier of real cake for you and your FH to cut for tradition and then the rest as actual cup cakes 🙂

I love cupcakes so much, and I was going to go with them. However, I personally wanted something a little more formal. I have seen amazing-looking formal cupcakes, but I couldn’t find any around here. So, I switched to Tiffany Box Petit Fours. Then I switched again to mini cheesecakes.
I think it depends- a cupcake could be done formally.

my wedding’s actually pretty formal, but my fi and i don’t care at all about cake for it’s appearance’s sake or as a tradition in and of itself. our caterer already provides a dessert course, so cake is really an extra for us. and all the cakes we tasted honestly tasted like crap–totally dry and not worth the exorbitant cost. so we’re getting cupcakes from our favorite bakery, for a third of the price! win-win for us.

I love the idea of cupcakes mostly because I love options. I LOVE peanut butter, but worry about potential allergies, so cupcakes allow me to have my chocolate peanut butter treats while providing a second, non-life threatening treat to our guests. A friend of mine also had cupcakes for her wedding and she used a tiered cupcake tray. It was very elegant and there was actually a cake topper for the bride and groom to slice.

I can’t help but love cupcakes. I mean really it is your own personal cake that you don’t have to share with anybody. What is there to dislike about that?! We aren’t doing a cupcake tower, instead our baker is placing the cupcakes and tiny chocolate seashells around brown sugar that has been made to look like sand (beach theme:).

We are going to do a wedding cake. But for the groom’s cake, we are doing cupcakes. We’re decorating them as pool balls in a rack

We’re going with cupcakes. There’s a lady in my town who has a business selling really fabulous, BEAUTIFUL cupcakes so it was a fairly easy decision for us. Another thing that contributed to our decision was that cupcakes are so easy in terms of serving them, no one has to cut anything, no one has to serve anything. Our wedding is going to be fairly relaxed, we’re having a sit down dinner but it will be a buffet and the appeal of the cupcakes is that when/if guests decide they want one they can just come up and grab one! I’ve got a vintage glass cakestand that we’re going to use, it’ll have a tier of cupcakes and the top tier will have a larger cake that we’ll cut. The beauty of cupcakes is that you don’t need a fork to eat it with, you don’t really need a plate (we’re just going to have heaps of pretty serviettes) and you don’t end up with heaps of left over cut cake at the end of the night! Love it!

They would be great as an “aside” to me, in chocolate, beautifully frosted, next to the wedding cake 🙂

I LOVE the cupcake idea so much! But I’m having a formal wedding so I see the traditional wedding cake as being better suited than the cupcakes….maybe I’ll still have them at a dessert table or something.

We are doing cupcake sized cheesecakes for our wedding!

I’m having a semi-formal Sunday sit-down lunch affair, and I’m having cupcakes and a dessert bar. I L-O-V-E cupcakes, and love the chance to offer different flavors, as well. I think the type of platter or tiers you use can really have an effect on the formality..they make some really fancy cupcake stands nowadays IMO
