@WhiteLotus:  I have the third from the bottom sapphire ring. I get complimented on it all the time! Its worn very well, too. IMO I’d let him choose.

We went thru this problem too. The very first ring I tried on was an absolute stunner, only to find out it was twice his budget. I tried hard to look at other stores and online for a cheaper ring but I kept thinking about the original. I felt so bad, eventually we went back to look at it and found out it was all pure diamonds (apparently very important to me…I just wanted the look and I couldn’t tell the difference anyways), at that point he was willing to spend a bit more and I agreed I’d chip in a bit.

Yes I know, usually the guy should be paying for it, but I was going to be wearing this ring for 50 years! I didn’t want to keep thinking about the ring that I loved and couldn’t get.

Even though I knew about the ring, the proposal was still a complete shock. I spent 2 full days constantly checking to see that the ring was still on my finger and that it was real haha.

Yes that one. I don’t actually have a band with it- my mom bought it for me as a graduation gift.

That sounds very exciting! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that the ring can be custom made to fit your budget!!! My suggestion would be to find something you both love.. From what I’ve seen on the boards, it seems like A TON of couples pick out the ring together (way more than I expected). Me and my fiance picked my ring out together and I thought we were the only ones who did that lol. Apparently it’s very common! And I agree with what tattoodchick23 says, you wanna love it! You don’t want to be thinking about it later. And if your bf ends up picking out something for you himself, it sounds like you’ve given him plenty of good hints and I’m sure he’ll get you something you love.

Glad to hear you guys are diong well with the ring talk…I know it can get difficult between couples. We had originally decided we would be picking the top 3 and he would get to choose which one to propose with. But of course I couldn’t find any other 2 to go along with my favorite!

If you are willing to help pay for the reminding amount, that an ideal option. OR check out etsy, there’s a few designers on there (I can reccomend a few that I had emailed) that could make the ring for you that you love but be able to give you a better price… Again check with his friend first but it’s an option.

After it’s all over and done with I’m so glad I helped pick the ring. I stare at it everyday and brag about it. I think I’m super lucky that he even agreed to get it. I know if I had gotten something else I would of been constantly thinking of this one as I actually did get to go and “shop”….. Guess you have to decide what you can live with. Don’t be afraid to get involved with the ring though…I found it to be a great experience! (And yes, was SUPER excited for the proposal knowing what ring I was getting!!)

Just wanted to let you know to think – the swirly ring will hard to get a band to fit flush or even close to flush (if you find one the cost might factor into your pricing) with it. Just something you might want to consider.
