You can probably eat a protein rich snack.  Your body is probably trying to recover from working out.

You’re actually probably not drinking enough water.  You should drink a full 22oz bottle of water before your workout, during an hour workout, and another after you’re finished.  If you don’t drink enough water, your body will think it’s hungry.

Why did you eat for breakfast?  Cereal doesn’t really give me much energy and if I eat that and then exercise, my blood sugar gets really low and I feel like I’m going to pass out.

its a good idea to have a protein rich snack after a workout.  it aids muscle building, repair and recovery.  a good option is something small, but filling like an apple with a smidge of peanut butter or some almonds or hard boiled eggs.

That might not be enough to keep you energized through a workout.  I have never had that much water to drink before.  I would probably be peeing up a storm if I drank that much!

There was an interesting article in the NY Times a couple of weeks ago about the effect of exercise on appetite.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/18/magazine/18exercise-t.html?pagewanted=1

Some of it was pretty depressing.  For instance, this quote:  “Female bodies, inspired almost certainly ‘by a biological need to maintain energy stores for reproduction,’ Braun says, fight hard to hold on to every ounce of fat. Exercise for many women (and for some men) increases the desire to eat.”

Argh, why do men always have it easier?!

I don’t like to eat much before I work out because I can’t work out as hard and I’m hungry after the workout. Next time try eating just a little before your workout (like a piece of fruit or half a banana) and then eat the rest of your breakfast after.

You need protein but also carbs after you work out.. the combo of protein and carbs helps to repair your muscles after you work out.  It’s normal that working out makes you hungry!  Don’t worry – just grab for something healthy when the urge strikes!
