My Future Sister-In-Law adopted a sweet kitty from a shelter organization a few weeks ago. He is an older cat and had several teeth missing and a piece missing from his ear, but otherwise, he was pretty healthyand very loving. He likes to bump faces with you! She took him to the vet this morning to have one of the broken teeth removed, and the call I just recieved about it MADE ME SEE RED.
This poor cat had been SHOT IN THE FACE. There were pieces of buck shot from a shot gun lodged all over his body and it was more likely than not what had knocked a good protion of his teeth out and mangled his ear. I am sitting here at work in just about tears with anger and disgust at some people. Man’kind’ is not an accurate discription of us AT ALL.
The vet said that this injury happend some time ago, so the pieces of buck shot are no longer causing him discomfort. I will, for certain, be heading over to her house this afternoon to love all over that poor kitty.

Poor kitty give him loves for me too! I am glad he is not in any pain from it anymore but I hope the people who did that get some MAJOR Karma coming their way…

Most counties in our area lend out traps and take any cats you catch in them for the local shelter. We have a lot of stray cats in our neighborhood but other than a few paw prints on my car windshield, they leave us alone and run every time we get close since we don’t put food out for them. I don’t see how that cat was so much of a nuisance someone had to shoot at it.

Awww poor kitty 🙁 People anger me. I’m just thankful that this cat has been able to overcome his misfortune and find his way into a much more loving home. Extra pats & treats for this little guy from all of us!

I said it before, and I will say it again.
There is a special place in hell for people who hurt animals like that.
I’m so happy your FSIL took in an older kitty though, and is giving this poor thing the loving home he deserves after going through that!

Roaming cats are a nuisance. They use people’s yards and gardens as litterboxes. They kill songbirds (and other small animals, but I daresay most people don’t care if they are killing rodents). They walk on people’s cars, and worse, sometimes climb inside the engine because it’s warm, which can have devastating consquences.
I am NOT excusing the shooting of cats by any means. Just pointing out that people get frustrated with the behavior of roaming cats and often react inappropriately. Spend a few minutes online and you can research ways to keep unwanted cats out of your yard, (unfortunately, many cost money to implement, which brings people back to just shooting the cats, or poisoning them). My grandpa shoots squirrels that get into his birdfeeders…unforuntely, it’s not difficult for me to imagine him turning the gun on a cat who threatened the birds or used his (many) gardens as a litterbox.
And some people are just plain sick, and do it because it gives them pleasure to harm animals, (black cats, especially this time of year, are often victims of being tortured, mutilated, or killed). This is why it is so important to keep cats as INDOOR-ONLY pets.
So happy that your FSIL’s boy has been given a second chance! You should post a picture or two of him!

Im always horrified by animal cruelty stories. Ive been some horrendous ones in the paper i read, about people setting animals on fire, tying fireworks to their tails etc. And there dont seem to be particularly strict penalties (in UK) for people who do this
@Miss Apricot: i can understand people getting frustrated. but sometimes i think people hurt animals jsut for sh*ts and giggles

@Miss Apricot: I’ll agree with you there, but as you pointed out, there are many humane ways to solve the problem! And I’m always so scared in the winter that a kitty will be in my engine! I’ve taken to honking my horn for a second and then waiting before I start my car!
Thanks everyone for your replies! Seeing people that are as incensed as me makes me feel better!

Oh my goodness how terrible! At least he has a loving home now. Our kitty gives “head butts of love” like yours does. It’s adoriable.

@MrsKnox: That is so terrible! At least he sounds like he has a loving family now! I always adopt adult cats from the shelter because they are less likely to get adopted in general (and you know what you are getting, you don’t with a kitten). I’m glad there are people out there that will be kinda and generous with their love and adopt ones with some problems.
=( I love cats and they don’t deserve the treatment they get from a-hole people. That might be why I like cats better than people!

People are sick. Yes, strays are annoying but that doesn’t mean you should shot them. Around here the shelter has this amazing program where they trap, spay/neuter and release the strays becuase many of the feral cats aren’t ever going to be suitable house cats. But then they live out their happy life but don’t keep adding to the issue. It’s great!
