We didn’t really care about the date? We just started looking for dates in 2015, I originally wanted January or February but the 2 churches we liked were all booked through April so there, the first available date in 2015 at my favorite church is going to be my wedding anniversary 😛

We both graduated May 2014. I got my BA and he got his MA. My dad is super old school so we knew we wouldn’t be able to live together before getting married but we dated all throughout college and knew each other very well so it’s not like we rushed into it. We chose the end of summer so I could finish planning everything. Labor day weekend was perfect because a lot of our guests needed more travel time and we got a discount from our reception venue, photographers, and DJ for having a Sunday wedding. So 8-31-2014 became our date.

We were going to have our wedding on our five-year anniversary in 2016, which happens to be a Saturday. But then we fell in love with a venue that would be really expensive for our guests to stay at in the spring, which is high season for that town. We ended up booking a fall date.

- Wedding: September 2016 - State Park
We haven’t picked a for sure date. As silly as it sounds we are picking our date based off of peony season, when our venue is available, and when school will be out for the summer (granted there’s not a ton of snow days).

Wanted a late summer wedding. Weather will still be warm enough to have outside. Falls a week after low season so it’s much cheaper too.

- Wedding: October 2015 - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Our original date 6 November 2015 was chosen because that was the date he left to serve his mission, and we wanted to make that sad date a super happy date… But then our Stake Conference is being held that weekend, so it wouldn’t have worked for the Bishop, some attenders. Plus we wanted to go!!
Didnt want to go backwards. And the earliest it could be was Octiber 8th. So we had between October 8th and November 5th. And it had to be a Saturday…
so Octobee 17th 2015

I got into grad school unexpectedly and knew it couldn’t be this summer before school started so I chose a date over winter break that fits my preferences!

- Wedding: May 2016 - Ever After Banquet Hall
We had originally picked April 30, 2016, because it was two days before the anniversary of our first date, and we really wanted a spring wedding. We ended up having to move it due to my brother’s college graduation being the same day. We didn’t have a lot of options of when to move it to. He is in the maritime academy and will be on the training ship from Christmas right up until graduation. So we had to move it later. But, we couldn’t go too much later as we both have sons who will be graduating high school later in May. So, we only went one week later; May 7, 2016. Still the same week as our first date anniversary……but now it’s Mother’s Day weekend. :/ It may cause some issues with our florist……but I guess we’ll see.

Its the same date he proposed to me, two years later.

Fiance and I are both lead vocalists in different bands, so we worked around shows and touring as well as dates we were recording – we also worked around the fact that some of our other musician friends (one of them being FIs groomsman!) were touring on the original date we planned, but it was no hassle to change it 🙂

- Wedding: July 2015 - Carmen\'s Lakeview
We both work in a school (although I work year round whereas he is a teacher). So we were left working around school breaks. We wanted something that would be a few weeks after school was out and before we go back so picked mid July-mid Aug. The venue said all Saturdays and Fridays were booked for the entire summer so we were left with a Sunday. It didn’t really matter which day for us.

What happened with us is that we had already decided to get engaged, so while we were … I guess pre-engaged (haha), I listed off every Saturday in the next year and a half that would be workable (I did this in Nov ’14). It was a decently long list, but then I went through and started removing dates for various reasons – I’m a college student in a very challenging program, so having a wedding during a semester would be a bad idea, so that ruled out any dates in September, October, November, February, April, and the beginnings of May and December, plus all but spring break with March. This left us with the end of May – beginning of August 2015 and 2016, the end of December – first 3 weeks of January 2016, or spring break 2016. Then I decided that having a wedding during the week of spring break was a horrible idea because I’d still have homework and would likely miss school for the wedding whether it was the first Saturday of break or the last Saturday of break (either the wedding week or the honeymoon). I hate summer because I overheat very very easily unless the temperature around me is around 68 degrees, so that ruled out summer 2015 and 2016. This left us with the end of December and the beginning of January. Due to the holidays, it was decided that it would be totally insane to get married at the end of December, since I’d be dealing with finals, and we’d have multiple family get-togethers, not to mention our poor bridal party would kill us because they have lives, too. This left us with 3 available dates: January 2nd, January 9th, and January 16th. We agreed January 2nd was probably still too close to the holidays (though we could have made it work, but it would have been quite a bit more stressful), and January 16th is 3 days before the spring semester starts, so we wouldn’t have been able to have a honeymoon if we decided to have one, so this left us with January 9th as the only date that would really work for us.
TL;DR – we picked January 9th because there were literally no other Saturdays that worked and we really wanted a Saturday wedding and a relatively short engagement.
