Theres nothing wrong with upgrading. People want different things when they are at different stages in their lives. Right now, I am still early in my career, I wont feel comfy wearing a 2+ carat diamond. But when im more established, I will definitely get something bigger. And I hate to say this, but if I am wealthy in the future, I want my ring to be the status symbol, just like men with their super cars.

My future Mother-In-Law was passed down a huge, gorgeous diamond from her mother and set it in a new ring and it took place of her engagment ring and band.  She now wears her original wedding set on her right hand pinky.  I like the fact that she still wears her old wedding set as it is still very special to her.

I don’t think I could ever change my engagement ring for another one. Some people aren’t as sentimental though.

My Fiance insisted upon getting me a new ring. She actually took my ring and hid it. It wasn’t something I demanded. We both knew that I picked out my first ring because we couldn’t afford the one I really wanted. She just wanted me to LOVE my ring. And now I do.

I’m not overly sentimental. I don’t need the same ring that she proposed with to make me feel special. I have the PERSON that gave me that gift. A ring is just a symbol of our commitment.

I love that my SO just wants me to be happy. She didn’t let her pride or stubbornness get in the way and make me keep a ring I didn’t love.

1. Neither of us are sentimental about the original e-ring and band.

2. We are now able to afford my dream ring, whereas we settled on the original so we could get engaged quickly.

3. DH is 100% okay with it, and just wants me to be happy.

4. We are both paying for my new set- I’m not forcing him to buy it for me.

5. A ring doesn’t define a relationship. It doesn’t matter if I changed my ring 102983490830 times; our relationship is rock solid ๐Ÿ˜‰

6. I love rings.

Personally I wouldn’t want to upgrade my ring purely for sentimental reasons. This was the ring that he picked out for me and asked me to be his for the rest of our lives. I do have a good size ring, center stone is 1.7, but regardless if it was bigger or smaller I wouldnt change it ๐Ÿ™‚

@canarydiamond:  that crossed my mind as well! Look at all the Bees that buy their Asha and mooissanite sims, business is great. Mike C can afford the best for his wife Jeravae, ofcourse she has a diamond engagement ring!

@Aquaria:  I probably wouldn’t upgrade, but I’m not very sentimental. Mainly, I’m just not that much interested in jewelry, so what I’ve got is fine with me. I like looking at other’s pretty, sparkling, rings, though, and I HAVE consdiered putting my solitair into a different setting.

But in the end, too much trouble, too much expense, and I lose interest in that conept quikcly.

@Aquaria:  My Fiance was pretty upfront about wanting to upgrade from the start. He proposed when we were full time juniors in college. He chose a high quality solitaire that I adore, but is smaller than I would have liked. He always says “when we upgrade” and suggested upgrading before the wedding but I said no. I want to marry him with the ring he asked me with!

When we upgrade it will likely just be a bigger stone. I will use my original stone as the center stone in a mother’s ring for my right hand.

We have actually downgraded. We now have rings that are like $10. Lol! But these hold much more sentimental values than our original ones.

DH and I knew each other for over 3 yrs before we tied the knot. We had quite a bit of differences then too which we resolved. We felt we were very figure for our age as compared to other couples we have met. We were doing just fine. no major issues but i don’t know what happened but after we got married, things just took a nosedive. we were always fighting for nearly 1.5yrs. constantly on the verge of divorce. It was horrible!!

So we made a pact one day. We started our marriage again. We made our own vows this time. We ‘blessed’ the rings ourselves at home in our palms. By that I mean, we made new promises that were symbolized by our rings. We could have used our original rings for this too but DH wanted new ones.

That’s how/why we have new rings.

@als1214:  thanks but not trying to be “cute”. I really would love to see MikeC’s wife Jeravae’s diamond engagement and wedding rings! What a sweet story she posted above about him initiating the upgrade to a larger diamond.

Her diamond is probably very large and high quality. Their Moissanite.co and Betterthandiamond CZ business appears to be booming if these boards are anything to go by!

I’m sorry I’m so late coming back to this thread.  It’s been a while since I’ve checked these boards.  Yes, I am Mrs Mike C from the other boards.  I didn’t know how much I was allowed to say, so I didn’t mention that I was connected.  I used my first name here, because I do know that some of you know me, and I wanted to be transparent about who I am without stating it, in case it was against the rules. I hope that’s OK.

I will post pictures of my original set and my upgrade when I find pictures of my original set.  ๐Ÿ™‚
