I feel your pain. I work nights and the chic next door is SO LOUD…. always has LOUD MUSIC… and she talks on her phone….LOUD!!!  lol… like she will go outside under my window when I am trying to sleep and talk on the phone…  I swear shes like yelling the whole time…. I hav been tempted to open my window and tell her to stfu. Then again though, I doubt she realizes there is someone trying to sleep in the middle of the day. lol

Living in an apartment is definitely hard. It’s really possible that they don’t quite realize how loud it is for you. It’s also possible that they just aren’t being courteous.

We’re on the top floor of our building, so we don’t have upstairs neighbors — we are the upstairs neighbors. Our floors are carpeted, so that has to help. But things like vacuuming? I get home from work at 5:45, so unless I wanted to vacuum our whole apartment while still in my work clothes, I have to vacuum after 6:00. I never do so after 9:00 PM though. And I’ve got to use the blow-dryer early in the morning when I’m getting ready for work. Some things are unavoidable.

But many things are very avoidable. You’re right. Even being the upstairs neighbors, we hear SO MUCH NOISE coming from our downstairs neighbors. I just try to remind myself that it’s part of apartment living, unfortunately.

And that it will make the day we can finally get a house even that much sweeter!

The people above us are college students & they blare music so loud. We can also hear them having sex occasionally! It’s kind of ridiculous how loud they are.

I don’t complain, though, because I have a 2 year old & he sometimes tantrums. I try to keep him as quiet as I can, but sometimes it’s just not possible. So, I don’t feel like I have the right to complain.

That said, I still think that since their noise could easily be controlled & mine can’t (not to mention that mine usually goes on during the day when they’re in class), they should be more courteous. Oh, well.

I feel your pain too!!

We live this townhouse thing, basiclly a 2 story one bedroom apartment, and share a walk way with your neighbor and she is such a creep! Everytime I come home she peeks out her blinds and watches me.

She also leaves her windows open and talks on the phone so loud, I’m like why are you ALWAYS yelling!!

She has no idea how to park and will park half way over the line almost every day. Our last big snow storm, this lady at the end of building spent like 45 minutes shoving out her spot and the neighbor parked there… really? Do you think she did that for you?

She leaves her trash out right in front of her door so we get rabbits/racoons/coyotes coming up there and destroying her trash.

ughhhh…no consideration for anyone!! I hate being the person who always tries to take other into consideration, just for them to rude and only care about themselves.

Also cant wait to get a house!!!!

I live in an apartment and I lived in a house. I like apartment living better now that I experienced both types!

PRO

Apaprtment living –  you don’t have to worry about things like water heaters, water bills, fixing leaks, appliances are replaced/fixed by landlords, break-ins (depends on which floor…)

CON

House living – I lived in a townhouse so houses are connected… You have to pay for EVERYTHING! water bill, taxes, if the sewer backs up, if the pipes break and they are on your property, you pay! Water heater rental or buy one when it breaks, fix your own leaks, or anything that breaks, stove, fridge, washer/dryer and the inevitable nosy neighbors.

I’m on the top floor, with wood floors.  Fiance and I try to remove our shoes and wear just socks or slippers around the apartment.  We try not to run the dishwasher after 9pm.  We try to keep the TV low.  We try not scrape the chairs. We don’t talk in the halls until we get outside or into our apartment.

But he has to use his electric razor before work in the morning.  And sometimes I have to blow dry my hair in the morning.  And I have to use a ‘normal’ voice on the phone.

So we hope those things are canceled out by our other attempts to be quiet.

But you’re right, some people just aren’t courteous of others.

I always feel bad when I play music though I never play it loud, and like you I don’t vacuum after around 630.

I never ever hear my neighbors. I mean if I put my ear to the wall I can sometimes hear a laugh or something–maybe we just have thick walls. I’m glad we only share one wall though and we don’t have anyone above or below (we’re in a triplex).
