Oh my goodness I would go insane!

I share an office with one other girl and every once in a while she’ll put her phone onto speaker and when she gets off the phone she’ll apologize and say ‘oh I couldn’t hear what they were saying so I put it on speaker’

How does that help to hear???

Pet peeve.  Definitely.

@KatNYC2011: OMG!!! This is my BIGGEST pet peeve! There was a girl in my office who used to do the same thing constantly. They have total disregard of the people around them trying to do work and not be involved in your conversation! The only calls she wouldn’t put on speaker was her personal calls.

OMG I hate that!!!!!!!! I have an office but my neighbor ALWAYS talks on the speakerphone and he think’s that he needs to yell all the time. Even with personal calls, I swear I know every day what his family is eating for dinner, when his daughter has a soccer game etc.

We have an admin that whistles all the time, and we don’t even have cubes – just desks and open space. “Corporate openness” my ass. Horrible policy!

@KatNYC2011: Agggh that’s annoying. We have the opposite problem, I guess–it’s so deathly quiet in here!  Iwish I could bring a radio and liven it up a little, lol.

I go nuts just listening to a person on the phone, not even speaker phone. I distract crazy easily.

@crayfish: Yes, I hate my dumb half wall.

Ya I’d go nuts….the only time this is cool is when my boss puts his little girl on the phone and she goes jabbering away! haha.

I used to have an office right next to a guy who yelled into his speakerphone all day. I could totally hear everythign through the walls b/c they were really thin (cheap construction). He would only pick up the receiver if it was a personal call, so obviously he knew people could hear him. I confronted him several times about it both in a joking and serious way. Every time, he would start off being quieter then eventually switch to 100% speakerphone every time. I resigned shortly after (not because of him), but if I was still there I probably would have gone to HR as my next step.

A guy in my old office used to listen to his voicemail on speakerphone every morning. One night, another coworker left him a message in a “femanine” sounding voice saying “Hello Mr. _____, we received your application to become an employee at Danny’s nightclub (popular male strip club in area). Unfortunately, we are looking for someone who is more endowed, if you know what i mean….”

He got the hint.

I hate speakerphone. Someone should make it so you can only activate it in your car on your cell or something, lol. I’m really the only one in my office, but my parents use it at home all of the freaking time, even when they’re just sitting on the couch! I just don’t understand the appeal of yelling at a phone versus talking into it!
