@LadySnow:  It’s totally awesome that you love them.  I wish I did because you can get a great deal on a previously owned or antique one.  Outdated is such a bad term.  Trends come and go and you have to get what you like because no matter what that is, it’s going to go in and out of style like everything else.

Don’t listen to them, they’re just jealous of how long and graceful they marquis cuts make your hands look! I think they’re gorgeous.

I think they look great as solitaires! Some say the marquise is outdated, but I see it as a classic shape that stands out from all the rest. Emerald cut is my favorite and that’s what I have, but I’d be content with a marquise as long as it had v-tipped prongs to protect the pointy ends, or perhaps if it was in a bezel setting.

@GFerg:

I have a marquise with trillions on either side.  I too think it looks like a star. I wasn’t in love with marquise and don’t know that I would have picked it, but I love my ring.  Fiance did it on his own.  And ziggy86 I have never seen anyone else with the marquise trillion combo so yay!

@lovekiss:  Love those settings!

Normally, I see marquis as dated and “trying to appear bigger than they are” (though I like pear cuts, so I’m not very consistent). I’m sure they will be back in vogue soon enough so get what you love. I have a round brilliant cathedral solitaire that I think is stunning and timeless, but get zero comments on it because it is so timeless and classic, everyone has scene it before.

@LadySnow:  Not really sure…I have one as I wanted something different and everyone else I knew had a round cut.  I think they are beautiful, even though I don’t have long, slender fingers.  It is a bit more difficult to find a setting that works with a marquise and sometimes the stone can get snagged in sweaters, but I wouldn’t trade mine for the world…

However, I have to admit I have had mine reset twice since I got married (!!!).  Here is my original ring (I don’t like the look of a separate engagement / wedding ring so mine is a combo):

About ten years later, I decided I was a white-metal girl, so had it reset.  My jeweler said the thick band took away from the beauty of the stone, so I went with something thinner.  To me, this looked too much like an engagement ring:

So now, three time’s the charm and I am getting my ring reset into this setting.  I love this as the split shank gives the illusion of a thicker band, we now have two kids which are represented by the two bands so I think it’s perfect.  My husband thinks I am nuts but I keep telling him I’m just finding the perfect setting, I already found the perfect guy!!!   (I will post a picture of my new ring on my hand once I get it back).

I LOVE MARQUISE!

Phew, okay, I got that out, lol.

I think marquise are classic, timeless cuts that I will love forever and always. My mother had one, and I just couldn’t resist getting one myself. It was the only shape I wanted. Honestly, I don’t like all the “trendy” cut diamonds. Princess cut is everywhere. I like having something unique and I love my ring!

By the way, I love seeing all the other marquise in the Hive! I almost never see them!

wth i like marquise but i wouldn’t wear it because unless the stone is small you would have to find a wedding band that accommodates it or not wear one. why i prefer pear cut ๐Ÿ™‚

I love my marquise ring because I don’t see many people with them! I love having something different.
