sunburn : A bit off topic. Interesting you mentioned type 2 diabetes and Americans. I’ve heard some people at work brag of how they take advantage of all you can eat buffets by coming to the restaurant at 3pm to have lunch and pay lunch prices. After eating lunch, they just linger around and wait there until after 4pm because the dinner food (different from the lunch food they just ate) is taken out from the kitchen. They will continue to eat for a second time and even go back for 4th or 5th plate afterwards. No wonder nearly all of them have gained so much weight the last few years.
ETA: My SO is European and in his country, there are no free re-fill sodas and basically no buffet restaurants. If there are any, you only find breakfast buffets from the American chain hotels.

In my line of work I saw the results of a lifetime of overeating and it wasn’t pretty. Diabetes does some insidious things to your body that may not show now, but will over the course of a lifetime. And I’d want to stand up and cheer when someone told me they’d shed a bunch of weight and their Type 2 diabetes diagnosis along with it. But they were few and far between.

God help me Jesus.
This reminds me of a time I stayed at the Level in Punta Cana all inclusive – Adults Only. But we were able to access the family buffets. Which I will NEVER go to again. I literally saw a little boy pull spaghetti out of a bowl with his hands and put it back in the mf bowl.
He then proceeded to take nilla wafers out of a bowl put them on his plate, decide which ones he didnt want, and put them back in the bowl.
Mom was there. Watching. The. Whole. Time. I was absolutely mortified. Like woman, control your child!! LOL
